Jefferson County added to Presidential Disaster Declaration

(DES MOINES) – Governor Terry Branstad today announced Jefferson County, which was affected by severe weather in April, has been added to the Presidential Disaster Declaration granted May 31, 2013.

This declaration provides assistance to state and local governments and certain nonprofit organizations (including rural electric cooperatives and municipal utilities) for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities. The initial counties eligible for Public Assistance were Appanoose, Cedar, Clinton, Davis, Decatur, Des Moines, Iowa, Johnson, Keokuk, Lee, Lucas, Marion, Monroe, Muscatine, Ringgold, Van Buren, Wapello, Warren, and Wayne.

Public Assistance program funds are available to public entities and select non-profit agencies to rebuild damaged infrastructure that may include roads, bridges, culverts, and other public facilities, or to cover costs of emergency work during the severe weather that occurred from April 17 to the April 30, 2013. This declaration is not related to the most recent Presidential Disaster Request made by the Governor on June 19 for flooding that began in the state on May 19.
