Re-Zoning Request Passes 2nd Reading

Written by on June 25, 2013 in News

After some discussion of landscaping barriers the Henry County Supervisors passed the second reading of ordinance that would change the zoning for property west of New London from Agriculture to commercial. Jerry Dupree made the request so he could open a custom motorcycle, car, RV and ATV dealership at the Southeast corner of Hwy 34 and 260th Street. His neighbors, Vernon and Deb Scmitt are opposed to the zone change. The supervisors were discussing ways in which Dupree could create a visual barrier between the properties. Also, the supervisors are still waiting on an opinion from the county engineer on the property’s driveway which the board doesn’t like. County zoning administrator Joe Buffington is recommending the zone change because it encourages diversity of industry. And because on the county future land use map the intersection is identified as a commercial node along Hwy 34. Both fulfill county goals.
