The 2013 IHSAA Boy’s State Soccer Championships were held in Des Moines last week and wrapped up Saturday with the 3 championship matches.  Class 1A Iowa City Regina won again with a 4-0 romp over Dyersville Beckman.  Class 2A was won by Cedar Rapids Xavier 2-1 over Storm Lake the team that beat Mt. Pleasant in the 1st round.  Class 3A was won by Iowa City West 2-1 over Iowa City High.

The IGHSAU Girl’s soccer championships will be played this Thursday thru Saturday at Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines.


The Mt. Pleasant High School softball games that were postponed Thursday night have been rescheduled.

The varsity softball games vs. Ft. Madison from May 30th have been rescheduled for June 11th at Mt. Pleasant at 5:30 p.m.

The junior varsity softball games vs. Ft. Madison from May 30th have been rescheduled for June 20th at Ft. Madison at 5:30 p.m


It was back to racing at 34 Raceway Saturday night June 1 following a double header washout Memorial Day weekend . But the wait was worth it with some exciting races thrilling the fans. Going home with the winner’s checks were Mark Burgtorf, Quincy, Il. (UMP Late Models), Mitch Morris, Eldridge (IMCA modifieds), John Schulz, West Burlington (305 sprints), Bobby Anders, Quincy, Il (IMCA Sport Mods), John Oliver, Jr., Danville (IMCA Stock Cars) and Austen Becerra, Carthage, Il. (4 Cylinders).

Coming up this week , Friday, June 7, 34 Raceway will be hosting the best of the best in sprint car racing when the World of Outlaw STP Sprint Car series takes on the 3/8 mile track with $10,000 on the line.  The WoO  sprints were last at 34 Raceway in 2009 when the Kasey Kahne owned sprint car raced by Joey Saldana took the win. Sprint cup racer, Kahne,  was on had to join Saldana in the winners circle that night an would also be seen signing autographs. Also racing will be the  W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprints racing for a $700 to win check and track points.  Tickets are available  at or O’Reilly Auto parts.  HURRY, THEY ARE GOING FAST!!!  Enter for a chance to win free tickets on 34 Raceway facebook page.

There will be no racing on Saturday, June 8 but action will return with its Saturday night program on June 15 with $5 Fan Appreciation Night.










Scott Lamm out going boys track coach at Mt. Pleasant High School has been selected to serve as one of the coaches for the Senior All Star Spotlight Track and Field meet to be held at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. Highlighting track and field talent from Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.  The meet will be held June 8th.  Coach Lamm will take with him 3 members of the 2013 Mt. Pleasant Panther track team, hurdler Tommy Thorne and throwers Justin Dunn and Emmett Wester.



As part of their 2013 fundraising effort, Team Southeast Iowa and Tailgating for Crohn’s & Colitis is having the 3nd Annual Tailgating for Crohn’s and Colitis charity event at Deerwood Golf Club in New London, Ia.  This year Team Southeast Iowa for Crohn’s & Colitis is making the event bigger and better! They will kick off the event on Friday, September 13th, 2013 with an 18-hole 4 person best shot golf tournament.  Then on Saturday, September 14th the tailgate event for the Iowa vs Iowa State football game will be held at Deerwood Country Club.  All proceeds from the event will be donated to Take Steps for Crohn’s and Colitis through Team Southeast Iowa.
