Mt. Pleasant girls softball played in the Davis County Tournament yesterday and went 1-3.  M.P. opened play with a 4-1 win over Albia, Sammi Goble was the winning pitcher and was 2-3 at the plate.  Sara Moffett and Jen Stuckerjurgen also were 2 for 3 hitting.  Amy Buckert and Leslie Taylor had RBI’s.

In game two Eddyville Blakesburg won over the Panthers 3-0, Jena Stuckerjurgon pitched.  Sara Moffett went 2-3 hitting.

Game three was a 6-1 loss to Davis County, Cali Liechty pitched for the Panthers and was relieved by Jena Stukerjurgen.

MPHS is now 4-4 and hosts a tournament today at East Lake Park playing Moravia, Columbus Community and New London. Panthers play at Washington tomorrow night in a Southeast Conference double header, KILJ-FM 105.5 will be broadcasting the 1st game live at 5:30 p.m.

AREA SOFTBALL GAMES FROM TUESDAY NIGHT:  Burlington beat Ft. Madison twice 5-4 and 9-3, West Burlington-Notre Dame won 5-1 over Cardinal of Eldon, New London shutout Danville 12-0, Wapello got by Mediapolis 4-2, Central Lee lost all three games they played at the Davis County Tournament losing to Albia 4-3, Davis County 6-4 and Eddyville-Blakesburg 4-0.  Iowa Mennonite School blanked Winfield Mt. union 12-0.


AREA BASEBALL GAMES FROM TUESDAY NIGHT:  West Burlington beat Central Lee 6-5, Cardinal of Eldon rolled over Notre Dame 9-1, New London edged Danville 5-4, Mediapolis beat Wapello 7-1, Winfield Mt. Union/Waco scored a 7-5 win over IMS , Van Buren clobbered Holy Trinity Catholic 13-2.


Mt. Pleasant sent two teams to the State Coed Golf Tournament yesterday.  The 2A tournament was played at Bos Landen in Pella.  Competing for the Panthers were:  Haley Booton and Kyle Kauffman, they tied for 24th with a 94 over 18 holes.  Courtney Mabeus and Kiley Miller tied for 32nd with a score of 100.  A team from Ankeny won the 62 team tournament with a 77 score.

Central Lee had a team in the 1A State Coed Tournament in Boone.  Alex Krebiel and Nick Pundt shot a 9 hole 39 score to tie for 2nd, the winning team was from Clear Lake and shot a 35.  


Scott Lamm out going boys track coach at Mt. Pleasant High School has been selected to serve as one of the coaches for the Senior All Star Spotlight Track and Field meet to be held at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. Highlighting track and field talent from Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.  The meet will be held June 8th.  Coach Lamm will take with him 3 members of the 2013 Mt. Pleasant Panther track team, hurdler Tommy Thorne and throwers Justin Dunn and Emmett Wester.


The Mt. Pleasant High School softball games that were postponed Thursday night have been rescheduled.

The varsity softball games vs. Ft. Madison from May 30th have been rescheduled for June 11th at Mt. Pleasant at 5:30 p.m.

The junior varsity softball games vs. Ft. Madison from May 30th have been rescheduled for June 20th at Ft. Madison at 5:30 p.m


The Iowa Wesleyan College Tigers’ cross country/track teams are selling IWC XC/Track apparel as a fundraiser in order to get some warm up/practice gear that each student-athlete can keep as his/her own.  They would like to have your support of the program by purchasing this apparel and wearing it with the Tiger Pride!!

The white t-shirt is $15, the black long sleeve is $19, and the grey sweatshirt is $31.  With each item purchased, $8 goes directly to the program to help the student-athletes buy the “Player Packs.”

At 34 Raceway  this week , Friday, June 7, 34 Raceway will be hosting the best of the best in sprint car racing when the World of Outlaw STP Sprint Car series takes on the 3/8 mile track with $10,000 on the line.  The WoO  sprints were last at 34 Raceway in 2009 when the Kasey Kahne owned sprint car raced by Joey Saldana took the win. Sprint cup racer, Kahne,  was on had to join Saldana in the winners circle that night an would also be seen signing autographs. Also racing will be the  W.T. There will be no racing on Saturday, June 8 but action will return with its Saturday night program on June 15 with $5 Fan Appreciation Night.
