9th ranked Washington defeated Mt. Pleasant in softball Thursday night on the Demons diamond 11-1 and 10-0.  In game one Mt. Pleasant led the game off by loading the bases but left all three runners on base and never threatened offensively again till they scored their lone run in the top of the 5th inning.  Washington on the other hand scored runs in 4 of the 6 innings.  Sammi Gobel suffered the loss in the pitching circle and Leslie Taylor had 2 hits and the RBI.

In game two Washington out hit the Panthers 19-3 in the 10-0 win.  Jena Stukerjuergen pitched for M.P., who has a 4-7 record overall and will host Fairfield Monday.  #9 Washington is now 6-2 overall.

OTHER ARERA SOFTBALL SCORES:  Wapello edged Waco 6-5, New London shutout Van Buren 8-0, Columbus Community rolled over L&M 16-8. Fairfield won twice over  Keokuk 5-3 and 8-1, West Burlington blitzed Danville 20- 1.  Burlington split with Davenport West winning the opener 2-1 and dropping the night cap 8-3.


Mt. Pleasant handed Washington their first two loses of the season in baseball last night on the Demons home field 5-1 and 7-1.  Each team scored a run in the first inning, then M.P. put up a pair of scores in the 2nd and 5th innings and winning pitcher Connor Shull kept the Demons at bay.  Leading the Panther offense Trey Magnani was 2-3, each team had 5 hits and 2 errors.

In game 2, Mt. pleasant  had a 5 run 4th inning and good pitching from Dustin Amos to grab the 7-1 win.  Leading the offense was Carson Remick with 2 RBI’s.

The sweep gives the Panthers a 2-0 record in the Southeast Conference and they are 3-4 overall.  Saturday they go to the Mid Prairie Tournament to play.

OTHER AREA BASEBALL SCORES:  Burlington split with Davenport West, they won the opener3-2, Grayhounds won the 2nd game 15-4.  Ft. Madison beat Central Lee 12-1, L&M rolled over Danville 11-2.   


Scott Lamm out going boys track coach at Mt. Pleasant High School has been selected to serve as one of the coaches for the Senior All Star Spotlight Track and Field meet to be held at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. Highlighting track and field talent from Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.  The meet will be held June 8th.  Coach Lamm will take with him 3 members of the 2013 Mt. Pleasant Panther track team, hurdler Tommy Thorne and throwers Justin Dunn and Emmett Wester.


This Friday night is Fan Appreciation Night at the Lee County Speedway. For the first time in the history of the track they are offering FREE admission into the grandstands, after 6:00pm! At 34 Raceway  this week , Friday, June 7, 34 Raceway will be hosting the best of the best in sprint car racing when the World of Outlaw STP Sprint Car series takes on the 3/8 mile track with $10,000 on the line.  The WoO  sprints were last at 34 Raceway in 2009 when the Kasey Kahne owned sprint car raced by Joey Saldana took the win. Sprint cup racer, Kahne,  was on had to join Saldana in the winners circle that night an would also be seen signing autographs. Also racing will be the  W.T. The Mt. Pleasant High School softball games that were postponed Thursday night have been rescheduled.

The varsity softball games vs. Ft. Madison from May 30th have been rescheduled for June 11th at Mt. Pleasant at 5:30 p.m.

The junior varsity softball games vs. Ft. Madison from May 30th have been rescheduled for June 20th at Ft. Madison at 5:30 p.m


The Iowa Wesleyan College Tigers’ cross country/track teams are selling IWC XC/Track apparel as a fundraiser in order to get some warm up/practice gear that each student-athlete can keep as his/her own.  They would like to have your support of the program by purchasing this apparel and wearing it with the Tiger Pride!!

The white t-shirt is $15, the black long sleeve is $19, and the grey sweatshirt is $31.  With each item purchased, $8 goes directly to the program to help the student-athletes buy the “Player Packs.”
