Healthy Communities to offer healthy options at Henry County Fair

Written by on July 11, 2013 in News

Are you planning to visit the Henry County Fair this year? Healthy Henry County Communities will be there selling healthy food options under the grandstand. Items sold will include fresh deli sandwiches, veggies and ranch dressing, fresh fruit, cheese sticks, Gatorade G2 and more.
“Healthy Communities and the Iowa Community Transformation Grant both focus on the importance of increasing healthy options in restaurants, concession stands and county events and we are excited to return to the county fair to offer healthy food choices.” states Kelly Carr, Healthy Communities Coordinator. “It was great to see the kids who were at the fair day after day stopping at our booth looking for fresh vegetables. They could still get their hamburger, but they wanted veggies instead of chips and that’s the kind of small changes that we are encouraging.”
The Henry County Fair runs July 16th – July 21st. Healthy Communities will be under the grandstand every day during lunch time, Wednesday and Friday during dinner time also and most of the day on Saturday and Sunday. Be sure to stop by and mix up your routine by adding a healthy option or two! Healthy Communities is also participating in the new “Wrap it up” Food & Fitness Challenge on July 21st with a station along the fitness route and a nutrition education challenge.
