Eugene Raymond Baker, age 88, of Winfield, died Saturday July 6, 2013 at Sunrise Terrace Care Center. The son of Raymond and Velma (Holley) Baker, he was born September 9, 1924 on the family farm rural Winfield. On June 11, 1948 he married Imogene Watson in Mt. Pleasant; she died July 27, 2010. He attended country school and graduated from Winfield High School in 1942. He was a lifelong dairy farmer, living and working the farm for 66 years before turning the operation over to his son. He was a former WACO school board president. He was a fast pitch softball pitcher in earlier years. He was an avid bowler and a Chicago Cubs fan. He was an active member of the Olds United Church of Christ.
Survivors include: one son Kent Baker of Winfield; two daughters, Barbara Pankoke of St. Charles, Illinois and Linda Baker of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one sister Mary Lou Peterson of Olds; sister in law Ruth Clark of Danville;
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters.
The funeral service will be Wednesday July 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Olds United Church of Christ. Private family burial will be prior to the service at Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-7:00 p.m. at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will meet with friends from 5-7:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established for Sunrise Terrace Care Center.
