Mt. Pleasant and Burlington battled in baseball last night at Community Field home of the Class “A” Burlington Bees professional team. The final score looks more like they played football as Burlington won 20-11. M.P. fell behind by 17 runs and then scored 3 runs just in time before the 15 run rule came into play. Jacob Dilks suffered the loss on the mound. Leading the hitting were: Justin Dilks was 3 for 5, Colton Schinstock had a triple. Schinstock and Justin Dilks had 3 RBI’s each. Mt. Pleasant is 14-12 overall and will host Ft. Madison Monday in Southeast Conference play.

Girls Class 2A Regional softball got started last night with Wapello beating L&M 6-1, Cardinal scored a 6-1 victory over Van Buren. Tonight Wapello will play at Iowa City Regina and Cardinal will go to Highland.
Class 3A Regional softball scores from last night, Central Lee won over Mediapolis 17-0 as Jordon Greenfield threw a no hitter. West Burlington-Notre-Dame rolled over Davis County 13-0, Centerville beat Albia 11-9, Clarke beat Chariton 12-0, Mid Prairie rolled over Columbus Community 17-1.
Friday’s class 3A action has Central Lee at #2 ranked West Burlington-Notre Dame and Centerville at Osceola Clarke.
Girl’s Regional Tournament Class 1A softball continues tonight.
Moulton Udell will play host to 10th ranked New London at 7 p.m., KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry that game live.
Moravia now plays at Twin Cedars and Grandview Park Baptist plays at Earlham.
The Mt. Pleasant High School volleyball program is hosting a volleyball camp for 4-8th graders July 23-25 from 6pm-8pm at the high school. For $30 and you get to learn many volleyball fundamentals and game competition, plus you get a t-shirt. Please stop by the Mt. Pleasant Park and Rec Deaprtment and pick up a form.
Whitetails Unlimited is sponsoring the Mt. Pleasant Banquet on Thursday, September 19, at Manning Hall, 601 So. Jackson Street, Mt. Pleasant. Iowa’s Oldest County Fair, the Lee County Fair, is set to host this Friday’s racing action at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, IA. The night will be highlighted by the Sprint Invaders, also in action on the night will be the IMCA Modifides, IMCA Sport Modifides, and the IMCA Sport Compacts.
This will be the third and final appearance by the Sprint Invaders for the 2013 season at the Lee County Speedway.
Gates will open at 5:30 pm, hot laps at 7:00 pm, with racing at 7:30 pm. Grandstand admissions are adults $15, students 7-17 $10, kids 6 & under FREE! Pit passes will be $30, ages 7-13 $15, and ages 6 & under $10.
Coming up this week, Saturday, July 13, is the event late model fans have been waiting for when the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour makes its only Iowa stop at 34 Raceway. $10,000 is up for grabs with the best in late model racing taking on the challenge. As of July 5, Brandon Sheppard leads the point race for the UMP series followed by Bobby Pierce, Ryan Unzicker and Shannon Babb. Among area racers scheduled to compete include Chad Simpson, Chris Simpson, Brian Birkhofer, Mark Burgtorf, and many others. Also scheduled will be the IMCA Sport Mods, 4 Cylinders and back for the second time this year 4 Wheelers and Pit Bikes.

The Mt. Pleasant Hot Stix 12 and under softball team is headed to the Northern National 12 and under ASA softball tournament in Bloomington, Indiana July 25th thru 28th. The Hot Stix finished as the champions in the 12 and under Class “B” state tournament recently to qualify for the nationals. They are currently conducting a fund raising campaign to help finance the trip to Indiana, team representatives will be contacting local businesses and individuals to donate.
