10th ranked New London rolled over Moulton Udell 15-0 in Class 1A Regional softball action on the Eagles Field led by pitcher Morgan Christner who pitched a perfect no hit game striking out 11 of the 12 batters she faced and at the plate she was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI’s.  Sami Koontz and Emily Parks also had 3 hits each.

New London will now face Waco in the semi finals Friday night at Danville at 7 p.m. The Warriors defeated Winfield Mt. Union 10-1 last night in Wayland.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the game live.

In the other half of the regional Twin Cedars won 4-3 over Moravia and Earlham downed Grandview Park Baptist 5-1.  Those two winners will meet Friday night at Earlham to decide who will play the winner of the Waco vs New London game on Monday night in the Regional final at Pella Christian High School.

The 10 and 30 Mt. Pleasant Panther softball team opens Class 4A Regional play tonight at Fairfield who has a record of 28 and 11 with 4 of those wins against the Panthers by a combined score of 41-0.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry tonight’s game live beginning at 7 p.m.  The winner tonight plays Saturday at Oskaloosa against the Indians at 7 p.m.

 

Friday’s class 3A Regional softball action has Central Lee at #2 ranked West Burlington-Notre Dame and Centerville at Osceola Clarke.

 

AREA BASEBALL SCORES:  Mediapolis 5 Notre Dame 1, Ft. Madison swept Washington 8-6 and 18-4, Bloodhounds play Fairfield tonight and MPHS Monday night to wrap up their season.

Mt. Pleasant plays Oskaloosa in non conference JV and varsity baseball on the road tonight.

 

The Mt. Pleasant High School volleyball program is hosting a volleyball camp for 4-8th graders July 23-25 from 6pm-8pm at the high school.   For $30 and you get to learn many volleyball fundamentals and game competition, plus you get a t-shirt. Please stop by the Mt. Pleasant Park and Rec Deaprtment and pick up a form.

 

Iowa’s Oldest County Fair, the Lee County Fair, is set to host this Friday’s racing action at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, IA. The night will be highlighted by the  Sprint Invaders, also in action on the night will be the IMCA Modifides,  IMCA Sport Modifides, and the  IMCA Sport Compacts.

This will be the third and final appearance by the  Sprint Invaders for the 2013 season at the Lee County Speedway.

Gates will open at 5:30 pm, hot laps at 7:00 pm, with racing at 7:30 pm. Grandstand admissions are adults $15, students 7-17 $10, kids 6 & under FREE! Pit passes will be $30, ages 7-13 $15, and ages 6 & under $10.

Coming up this Saturday night at 34 Raceway, is the event late model fans have been waiting for when the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour makes its only Iowa stop at 34 Raceway. $10,000 is up for grabs with the best in late model racing taking on the challenge. As of July 5, Brandon Sheppard leads the point race for the UMP series followed by Bobby Pierce, Ryan Unzicker and Shannon Babb. Among area racers scheduled to compete include Chad Simpson, Chris Simpson, Brian Birkhofer, Mark Burgtorf,  and many others. Also scheduled will be the IMCA Sport Mods, 4 Cylinders and back for the second time this year 4 Wheelers and Pit Bikes.

 

 

The New London Black & Gold Backers 4 person best shot tourney is Sat July 13 @ 9 am.  Prizes, silent auction and beef brisket meal provided by Phillips Automotive.  Hole-in-one contest first round on hole #2 for $10,000 sponsored by Shottenkirk Mt. The Mt. Pleasant Hot Stix 12 and under softball team is headed to the Northern National 12 and under ASA softball tournament in Bloomington, Indiana July 25th thru 28th.  The Hot Stix finished as the champions in the 12 and under Class “B” state tournament recently to qualify for the nationals.  They are currently conducting a fund raising campaign to help finance the trip to Indiana, team representatives will be contacting local businesses and individuals to donate.

 

Whitetails Unlimited is sponsoring the Mt. Pleasant Banquet on Thursday, September 19, at Manning Hall, 601 So. Jackson Street, Mt. Pleasant. This special event will feature a two-meat dinner, auction, and prizes with a wide array of products such as firearms, outfitter packages, hunting and outdoor related equipment, artwork, and collectibles only available at WTU events. Proceeds from this fundraising event will go toward projects that uphold WTU’s mission.

The social hour begins at 5:15 p.m. with dinner at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $40 each, or $20 for a spouse or child. Ticket order deadline is August 29, and tickets will not be sold at the door.
