Mt. Pleasant split in their home softball double header with Centerville last night, winning the opener 6-1, before losing the second  game 9-5. Winning pitcher was Bailey Johnson who threw a 3 hitter and struck out 11.  Morgan Fraise was 3 for 4 and Sami Gobble had 2 doubles and a triple.

Game 2 Cali Leichty was the losing pitcher with Allison Buckert leading the hitting.            

OTHER AREA SOFTBALL SCORES:  Wapello beat L&M 13-3, Keokuk blanked Van Buren 10-0.

AREA BASEBALL SCORES: Burlington Notre Dame beat Danville 6-4, Central Lee beat Cardinal 7-3, Holy Trinity Catholic then beat the Central Lee Hawks 7-6, Winfield Mt. Union defeated New London 12-9.


The Iowa High School Athletic Association has announced the pairings for the 3A District baseball involving the Mt. Pleasant Panthers.  M.P. will open up district action at Fairfield at 5 p.m. July 19th against Ft. Madison.  The 7 p.m. game that night will have Fairfield playing host to Washington.  Those winners will meet in Fairfield on July 22nd at 7 p.m. 

The other district that will help make up Substate 4 will be played at Centerville with Chariton playing Keokuk at 5 p.m. and Centerville hosting Oskaloosa on July 19th, the winners will meet July 22nd.  The substate game will be played July 24th at a site to be determined.


The New London Black & Gold Backers 4 person best shot tourney is Sat July 13 @ 9 am.  Prizes, silent auction and beef brisket meal provided by Phillips Automotive.  Hole-in-one contest first round on hole #2 for $10,000 sponsored by Shottenkirk Mt. The Mt. Pleasant Hot Stix 12 and under softball team is headed to the Northern National 12 and under ASA softball tournament in Bloomington, Indiana July 25th thru 28th.  The Hot Stix finished as the champions in the 12 and under Class “B” state tournament recently to qualify for the nationals.  They are currently conducting a fund raising campaign to help finance the trip to Indiana, team representatives will be contacting local businesses and individuals to donate.


Rain forced the cancellation of racing action at 34 Raceway on Saturday, June 29 but race fans can look forward to some special upcoming events.

The Sprint Invaders 360 sprints will take to the track tonight for a re-scheduled May 25 rain out. Shoot for the Stars 360 sprint format will include a pit stop and fan interaction mid race. Mod Lites, 4 Cylinders and Vintage cars will add to the program with the Mod Lites and 4 Cylinders racing for track points. Stick around after the completion of the final race of the night for a huge fireworks display.

Coming up Saturday, July 6 will be KILJ Radio night with the popular $5 Fan Appreciation Night. Yes, that’s right, just $5.00 grandstand admission! 305 Sprints, IMCA , IMCA Sport Mods,  IMCA Stock Cars, 4 Cylinders and Mod Lites will be in action competing for track points. And remember, kids 10 and under are admitted FREE.
