Mt. Pleasant captured a share of the Southeast Conference baseball title at home last night when they swept the Ft. Madison Bloodhounds 12-1 and 12-2.  Dustin Amos and Justin Dilks were the winning pitchers.  Alex O’Donnell, Austin Smith and Carson Remick each had 2 hits in the first game.  In the night cap Colton Schinstock, Justin Dilks, Carson Remick and Tyler Pace had 2 hits apiece, Trey Magnani had a triple.

M.P. ties with Fairfield for the 2013 conference crown and will open up tournament play at Fairfield at 5 p.m. Friday against Ft. Madison KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the game live.

 

Tenth ranked New London is returning to the State Summer Softball Championships in Ft. Dodge next week, they punched their ticket to the big show last night with a 3-1 Regional Final win over 7th ranked Earlham at Pella Christian High School.  The Tigers first round opponent at state will be #2 ranked Martensdale St. Mary’s they will clash at 1:30 p.m. on diamond 2 at Rogers Field.

New London put their 3 runs on the board in the 3rd inning, Sarah Holtkamp led off with a walk and was driven in by Caitlin Chiri who doubled and she was then doubled in by Morgan Christner, Kristen Allen courtesy running for Christner then ran home when Victoria Noel reached base on an error by the Cardinals short stop.  Earlham threatened several times to make the come back, the picked up their run in the bottom of the 4th, left the bases loaded in the 6th and had the tying run at the plate when the game ended on an infield popup to short.  Morgan Christner pitched the win striking out 7.  The five New London hits were spread out over 5 different players.

Other 1A state qualifiers are:  Janesville, Akron-Westfield, Lynnville Sully, Don Bosco, Remsen St. Mary’s, and Newell Fonda.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the game live.

 

Class 3A Regional final saw Osceola Clarke score in the bottom of the 7th inning to beat West Burlington-Notre Dame 3-2. Class 2A Regional final had Iowa City Regina beat Highland 3-2 in 8 innings.  Tonight the Fairfield Trojans will play Winterset on their home field in the 4A Regional finals, the winner goes onto state.

Washington will play North Scott tonight for a State Tournament Berth at Cedar Rapids Xavier.

 

Burlington Notre Dame will play Van Buren at Danville tonight at 5 p.m. in Class 1A District baseball.   Winfield Mt. Union/Waco plays Danville in the second game of this double header at 7 p.m. with the winners playing on July 18th   at Fairfield KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the game live.  New London plays IMS at Highland at 5 p.m. tonight.

Class 2A action  has Mid Prairie playing Wapello at 7 p.m., preceded by West Burlington vs Mediapolis at 5 p.m. both games are at Wapello tonight.

 

Whitetails Unlimited is sponsoring the Mt. Pleasant Banquet on Thursday, September 19, at Manning Hall, 601 So. Jackson Street, Mt. Pleasant. This special event will feature a two-meat dinner, auction, and prizes with a wide array of products such as firearms, outfitter packages, hunting and outdoor related equipment, artwork, and collectibles only available at WTU events. Proceeds from this fundraising event will go toward projects that uphold WTU’s mission.

The social hour begins at 5:15 p.m. with dinner at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $40 each, or $20 for a spouse or child. Ticket order deadline is August 29, and tickets will not be sold at the door.
