Access Energy Cooperative Honored with Economic Development Impact Award

Iowa’s rural electric cooperatives utilize strategic partnerships to make a significant contribution to community vitality and economic growth throughout the state. Iowa Area Development Group (IADG) annually recognizes their electric utility partners for outstanding commitment, contribution, and participation in business development projects and local community initiatives.

Access Energy Cooperative plays an instrumental role in business and community development in southeast Iowa. This year marks their 75 year of operation and service to their members and to the region. In recognition of their leadership and collaboration, Access Energy Cooperative was presented with an Impact Award for site development. Two recent projects of note include the development of the new Wayland Industrial Park East, a 60-acre park with variable lot sizes; and the Iowa Fertilizer Company, a $1.4 billion project located on a 500-acre site near the Mississippi River in Lee County.

Access Energy Cooperative serves over 9,000 homes and businesses in portions of ten southeast Iowa counties including Davis, Des Moines, Henry, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lee, Louisa, Van Buren,
Wapello, and Washington. Over 2,219 miles of line are owned and maintained by Access Energy Cooperative which is headquartered in Mt. Pleasant and has a district outpost in Fairfield.

The Iowa Area Development Group is the marketing and business development office for Iowa’s member-owned rural electric cooperatives and select municipal electric utilities. IADG has assisted with over 1,800 successful business expansions and start-up projects. This growth represents capital investment of more than $7.56 billion and 45,000 jobs for Iowa.
