Development Commission debuts innovative web site

MOUNT PLEASANT— The Mount Pleasant Area Development Commission (MPADC) unveiled a much-anticipated web site today meant to invigorate business attraction and retention efforts in Henry County.
The new site, www.growmountpleasantiowa.com, was developed by the Golden Shovel Agency of Little Falls, Minnesota, with financial support from Farmers & Merchants Mutual Telephone Company (FarmTel), Iowa Network Services, and Alliant Energy.
Created over a six month period, the site features includes information about real estate, demographics, quality-of-life, and past economic development success in Henry County.
“The consensus in the economic development community is that a web site is Job #1,” said Kiley Miller, Executive Vice President of the Mount Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance. “Companies looking for a location for a new facility rule out 9 of 10 towns based on what they find online. If you don’t provide the information they need on your web site, you’re never going to get an on-site visit.”
The MPADC received bids from eight web site development firms before selecting Golden Shovel Agency. As part of the ongoing service agreement, the company will also support the development commission’s social media marketing.
“Golden Shovel is very well regarded in the industry and they deserve every accolade,” Miller said. “Their team is incredibly responsive and the site they’ve delivered looks great and is very easy to navigate and maintain.”
While the site is fully operational, Miller said a considerable amount of information is yet to be included. In particular, there will be more details and images from Henry County’s rural communities, he said.
“Our goal was to launch in early August,” said Miller. “We met that deadline, but a web site is never actually complete. We intend to improve it every day.”
Miller encouraged Henry County residents to visit the site frequently to improve its visibility in online searches.
