It only took a matter of moments before the exciting news hit Facebook….Henry County Fair Queen Kelsey Smith of Mt. Pleasant was crowned the 2013 Iowa State Fair Queen in ceremonies on the Ann and Bill Riley Stage last night. This is the first time a Henry County Fair Queen has captured the state crown, at least as far as this reporter can find. Kelsey will be senior at Mt. Pleasant Community High School. She is the marching band drum major, plays sports and is involved in student government among other activities at school. She will have to miss some of her volleyball camp as she will reign over the rest of Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. Her duties as queen will also take her around the state between now and next year at the this time. Kelsey has two sisters and is the daughter of Debbie and Jason Smith of Mt. Pleasant. Congratulations! Queen Kelsey!
