Maxine Hughes

Maxine Evelyn Elliott Hughes, 95, Keosauqua died at 1:30 A.M. Aug. 6, 2013 at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren, Keosauqua. She was born Aug 16, 1917 in Muscatine, IA to Leonard and Cora Gaston Elliott and married Roscoe Hughes on Mar. 23 1939.
Maxine grew up and attended school in Donnellson. She and Roscoe moved to the family acreage in Pittsburg in 1949 where they raised 3 children. She was a member of the Keosauqua United Methodist Church and was very involved in the Pittsburg community and she wrote 3 booklets on its folklore and history.
Surviving are a daughter, Roxie Bollinger (Jon) of Springfield, MO, a sister, Edith Elliott Tweedy, 3 granddaughters, 7 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband and 2 sons, Ron and Don Hughes.
Per her wishes her body has been cremated. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday Aug. 31, 2013 at Center Chapel United Methodist Church, southeast of Keosauqua, Rev. Douglas Harding officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Center Chapel United Methodist Cemetery following the service. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua is handling the arrangements
