SPORTS AUGUST 6, 2013

Written by on August 6, 2013 in Sports

The University of Northern Iowa football team made their return to campus yesterday as they begin preparing for the 2013 season with their fall camp.

The Panthers will look to continue their momentum from a strong spring performance into the fall. UNI was picked to finish third in the MVFC this season and will return seven offensive and six defensive starters after ending the 2012 season on a three game winning streak.

Head coach Mark Farley will enter his 13th season at the helm for the Panthers, winning at least a share of seven Missouri Valley Football Conference championships. Farley picked up his 100th career win during the 2012 season when UNI defeated Central State and helped lead UNI to tie the MVFC record for most consecutive weeks ranked in the Top-25 at 99.

UNI fans will see some new faces this season as the Panthers welcome 35 newcomers. The group consists of incoming freshman, JUCO transfers and FBS transfers. Brion Carnes will join the Panthers after playing at Nebraska last season along with Ray Mitchell who spent last season at Kansas.
