Scenic Drive Festival

Villages of Van Buren in scenic Southeast Iowa invite you to their largest event of the year! The Scenic Drive Festival, which is always held the second full weekend in October, is full of fun activities for the entire family!
Visitors are encouraged to follow the marked “Scenic Drive” through the county to experience each of the historic Villages. There will be Fine Arts, Crafts, Flea Markets, Car Show, Tractor Shows, Parade, Tours of Historic Sites, Fun Runs and so much more. New this year, Dancing Hooves Drill Team from Central Iowa, will be performing on horseback. Be sure to bring your camera for the new fun photo contest with a grand prize of a 2-night stay at Pine Ridge Retreat Cabins at Lake Sugema! There is no admission fee to the Scenic Drive Festival. The NEW Fun Photo contest encourages everyone to grab their camera to win prizes! There are 11 wooden “standees” throughout the Villages (standees are painted scenes on plywood with cut-out holes for guests to pose with their face in the scene.) Visitors must seek out at least 8 and take their picture. Pictures must be presented at the Welcome Center (809 1st St., Keosauqua) no later than 4pm on Sunday Oct. 13. Everyone will win a prize plus they will receive an entry for the Grand Prize: Villages Rest & Relax Get-Away which includes numerous gift certificates from area businesses plus a 2-night stay at Pine Ridge Retreat cabins at Lake Sugema!
Bentonsport

• Artists’ demonstrations daily
• The 38th Annual Bentonsport Art Festival, an annual juried art show with 30+ artists and fine craft artisans showcasing printing, photography, sculptures, fabric arts, jewelry and more.

• Indian Artifact Museum & Specialty Shops will be open.
• The Riverside Park will be filled with antique, craft, flea market and food vendors. Bake sales & raffles. Saturday Only: 10a-4p. Nauvoo on the Road with demonstrations of rope making, candle making, games and other pioneer activities.
Birmingham
• Trash and Treasures Sale and Swap Meet (Tractor Parts, Auto Parts, & Antiques) in the City Park Saturday (8:30a-5p) & Sunday (8:30a-4p).
• Lunch served by the Lions beginning at 11a in the City Park Shelterhouse, both days.
Bonaparte
• A silent auction at the Opera House featuring 24” Vintage Bride Dolls dressed in 1860’s era costume. Bidding will be open Sat. & Sun. 10a – 4p
• Antique, Craft & Food vendors in the City Park and throughout downtown.
• The National Historic Bonaparte Pottery Archeological Site will have 1865 Pottery Tours, Archaeological Digs, Demos from 150 year old molds, Gift Shop Open with new & old pottery for sale, and outdoor vendors including garden & yard art. Food will be available. Tours conducted at: 11a, 1p, 3p Admission fee is $5. Hours: 10a-5p Sat & Sun.
• Scarecrow contest will be held at the Bonaparte Library.
• Pumpkin Decorating contest in Riverview Park.
Bonaparte Cont’d
• Saturday & Sunday: Soup Luncheon at the Opera House 11a-1p.

Cantril
• Saturday only: All-U-Can-Eat Black Kettle Ham & Beans and Cornbread with a drink and dessert. 11a-2p at the Fire Station.
• Dutchman’s Store: Be sure to visit this old-fashioned general store. You’ll delight in their large selection of bulk food and candy, fresh produce, deli, fabric & craft room, homemade items, fall flowers and ornamentals. Sat. 8a-5p, Closed Sunday.
Farmington

• Keosauqua Fall Festival. Arts, Crafts, Wood Crafts, Food and several NEW Vendors will be set up downtown & in the Roberts Memorial Building (Hwy 1 N.) Vendors open Friday 4-7p, Saturday 9a-5p & Sunday 10a-4p.
• A variety of live entertainment throughout the weekend. All “stage” entertainment will be set up on First & Van Buren Street. Saturday Entertainment: 8:30a Van Buren Jr. High Choir, 11:30a (approx) VBHS Choir,
3:30p Double Dose (Country, Rock & Blues). Sunday Entertainment: 11a Illusions of Elvis by Junior Talley.
• Kids Games including Bounce House, Train, Petting Zoo and more (set up behind Community First Bank) all weekend.
• Sunday only: Kids Pedal Pull by Hawkeye Pedal Pull downtown Cass Street registration 1p and pull at 1:30p.
• Sunday only: 7th Annual Car & Motorcycle Show on First Street featuring classic & unique cards, trucks, hot rods, and motorcycles. Held rain or shine. Registration 10a-12p. Awards at 3p.
• Saturday Parade 10a theme “Service thru Volunteerism” (Due to the cancellation of the 2012 parade, the same theme will be used for 2013.) Line up begins at the Van Buren High School at 8a.

• The Southeast Iowa Cattle Dog Trial. Iowa’s largest 2 day cattle dog trial featuring some of the smartest dogs in the Midwest! Saturday & Sunday starting at 9a. 2.5 miles N. of Keosauqua on Hwy 1. No admission.

Lacey – Keosauqua State Park
• Buckskinners Rendezvous will be held at Ely Ford with demonstrations, knife & tomahawk throwing, black powder shoot, archery, basket weaving, traders row (with period goods), a food vendor (with Indian Fry Bread), candy cannons, and more. No admission fee.
• Sunday Only: The 7th Annual Lacey Keosauqua Fall Run & Trail Walk. A 5K, 10K or 2 Mile Trail Walk. Race begins at 9am. Entry Fees: Pre-registration (by 10/9/13) $15, Walk-up $20, & Family $50. Registration 8:15-8:45a on Sunday at the Lodge. Registration forms available at www.keosauqua.com.
Lebanon

Milton Area
• Guided tours of the historic Mormon Graves at Richardson’s Point. Saturday & Sunday 9a-5p. The informative guide will share his knowledge of the events leading up to the encampment at Richardsons Point, where the first deaths along the Mormon Pioneer Trail in 1846 occurred, and the continuing history that followed. • Historic Barn Tour. Brad Klodt will offer guided tours of this 1895 restored barn as well as share an impressive collection of antique John Deere tractors and vintage pedal tractors. No admission fee. 21483 Acorn Ave., Milton. Watch for signs.
