Fairfield Arts and Convention Center presents Sondheim Chamber Music Spotlight Series and Sondheim Organ Spotlight Series for 2013-14

Fairfield, Iowa – The Fairfield Arts and Convention Center is pleased to announce the 2013-14 Sondheim Chamber Music Spotlight Series and Sondheim Organ Music Spotlight Series.
The Chamber Music Spotlight Series features four distinguished performances.
Wolfgang David, violin and David Gompper, piano, will perform on September 12 at 7:30 p.m. Viennese violinist Wolfgang David and composer/pianist David Gompper perform a program of 19th and 20th Century violin and piano music, including works by Kreisler, Saint-Saens and Prokofiev.
Dr. Joel Brown, piano, will perform on February 6, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Joel Brown, professor music at Iowa Wesleyan College will perform a solo piano recital featuring music by Chopin, Mozart and the entire Kreisleriana by Robert Schumann.
Roycroft Piano Trio, will perform March 9, 2014 at 3 p.m. Roycroft Piano Trio, featuring Eugene Gaub, piano, Nancy McFarland, violin and Peter Szcqepanyk, cello will perform two great pieces as part of their program: Trio in Eb Major, Op. 1, #1 by Beethoven and the Piano Trio in D Minor, Op. 49, by Felix Mendelssohn. They will also play two pieces by Estonian composer Arvo Parte, Spiegel im Spiegel and Fratres.
Piano duo Chihee Hwang and Agnes Wan will perform May 8, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. The duo will perform piano duet repertoire composed by Mozart, Schubert, Schumann and Brahms. The Duo was formed in 2010 and has given well-received recitals across the country. This is the duo’s first visit to Iowa.
Tickets for the Sondheim Chamber Music Spotlight Series are $15 for Zone 1, $12 for Zone 2 and $5 for youth and are available at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center Ticket Office, 641-472-2787 or www.fairfieldacc.com. Tickets are general admission within the seating zones. Discounted packages for one or two tickets to all four performances are available. Fairfield Concert Association members receive admittance to the Chamber Music Spotlight Series with their membership card.
Presenting sponsors of the Sondheim Chamber Music Spotlight Series are the Fairfield Concert Association, Fairfield Iowa and Convention and Visitors Bureau, Chamber Music Society Fairfield, Edit Perry and Blake Overall, Paul Praither and Dr. Robert Tree.
The Sondheim Organ Spotlight Series will feature the John and Coralee Dey Barhydt Organ and includes two performances.
Jan Kraybill will perform September 26 at 7:30 p.m. Kraybill, principal organist at the international headquarters of Community Christ in Independence, Missouri, and Organ Conservator at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, Kansas City, will perform a program including music by Bach, Handel, Vierne, Dupre and her own transcription of a piece by jazz composer Dave Brubeck.
Wyatt Smith will perform May 11, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. Smith, a native of Rapid City, South Dakota, and a graduate student at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music will perform a program including music by Bach, Franck, Vierne and others. Smith was the winner of the 2011 AGO/Quimby Regional Competition for Young Organists and was among the winners of the 2011 USD Concerto Competition. His performances have been heard on several episodes of American Public Media’s Pipedreams.
