The Iowa Wesleyan College Tigers defeated Stephens College (MO) 15-0 in women’s soccer on Monday. IWC’s Savanna Blair set new school records for goals in a game (9) and points in a game (19).
The win moves the Tigers to 1-1 on the year.
The IWC men’s golf team finished 11th out of 13 teams at the Clarke Fall Invitational. The Tigers were led in the two-day tournament by Patrick Zielinski who finished in a tie for 23rd overall, shooting 80 in the first round and 77 in the final round. Blake Mitchell finished two strokes behind Zielinski, tying for 30th overall in the tournament.
Katie Meyers competed at the Simpson Fall Invitational on Monday for the Tigers. Meyers finished 26th, shooting a 119 for the round (+48). She was the lone Tiger competing.
The 15th ranked Mt. Pleasant Panther volleyball team is on the road tonight to play at conference foe Ft. Madison. M.P. is coming off a weekend where the lost 3 matches and won 2 at the Wilton tournament.

A full-contact alumni football game between Washington Demon High School graduates and Mt. Pleasant Panther graduates will be held next summer. The game was approved by the Washington Community School Board at a meeting last week. The Alumni Football USA company will put on the game, meaning that they provide liability insurance, pads, referees and an announcer. The school will be able to keep 50-percent of the proceeds raised from ticket sales.
The game will take place on June 7th as part of the city of Washington’s 175th Anniversary Celebration.
Whitetails Unlimited is sponsoring the Mt. Pleasant Banquet on Thursday, September 19, at Manning Hall, 601 So. Jackson Street, Mt. Pleasant. This special event will feature a two-meat dinner, auction, and prizes with a wide array of products such as firearms, outfitter packages, hunting and outdoor related equipment, artwork, and collectibles only available at WTU events. Proceeds from this fundraising event will go toward projects that uphold WTU’s mission.
The social hour begins at 5:15 p.m. with dinner at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $40 each, or $20 for a spouse or child. Ticket order deadline is August 29, and tickets will not be sold at the door.

The IWC men’s and women’s basketball 2013 golf outing is coming up on September 20th at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club. This is a 4 person best shot tournament to benefit the IWC basketball programs. Cost is $70 per golfer, and that includes dinner. There will be various contests and games for golfers to win nice prizes like grills, professional game tickets, golf equipment and other items. There are also opportunities for hole sponsors, and raffles prize donations.
Saturday, September 21 will be Mount Pleasant Community School District Elementary Day at the Iowa Wesleyan College football game. All elementary school students in the Mount Pleasant school district will be given free admission to the Tigers’ home game against the University of Minnesota-Morris Cougars. The game will begin at 12:00 p.m. at Mapleleaf Stadium in Mount Pleasant.
The 2013 season is nearing the end but there is one more race at 34 Raceway that fans won’t want to miss. The Sprint Invaders Season Championship will decide the 2013 Sprint Invaders Championship this Saturday, Sept. 21. Russ Hall leads the point race with 2279 but the battle for second in the standings sees just a one point difference between Dustin Selvage (2178) and Ryan Jamison (2177). Also on the card will be the IMCA Modifieds back for the first time since Season Championship night, August 24 and the 4 Cylinders.
