15th ranked Mt. Pleasant defeated Ft. Madison 3-1 in Southeast Conference volleyball in the Hounddome last night by scores of 14-25, 25-13, 26-24 and 25-19.  Kelsi Phipps led the offense with 11 kills and 3 blocks, Brianne Potts had 22 digs, Taryne Shull served 5 aces.  Meagan Hoenig led the Bloodhounds with 14 kills, 3 blocks and 6 ace serves.  M.P. plays at Ottumwa tomorrow in non-conference action.

The Freshman won  13-25, 25-17, 15-13 to improve their record to 3-1.

The Iowa Wesleyan College volleyball team had its two-game win streak snapped by the Crusaders of Clarke University on Tuesday night.  The host Crusaders made quick work of the Tigers, defeating IWC in three sets (25-13, 25-9, 25-14).

Marissa Bozik and Dakota Flesner led the Tigers’ attack, each recording five kills in the match.  Lindsey Johnson had 11 assists and six digs on the night.

The loss drops the Tigers to 3-9 overall.  The Tigers return to action on Thursday when they host Monmouth College at 7 p.m.. 


Fairfield defeated the Mt. Pleasant Middle School 7th grade “A” team 18-0.  Tucker Johnson rushed for 20 yards for the Panthers.  Zach Beason was 6 of 13 passing for 31 yards, Sam Beatty, Levi Puig and Rhett Zeglin each caught two passes.  Rhett Zeglin, James Kinney and Zach Beason led the tackling.

In the “B” game it ended in a 6-6 tie.  Alec Gardner scored the touchdown on a 5 yard run, others Leading the offense Tabian Waddle, Jackson Hughes and Evan Folker.  Defensive leaders were:  Bryce Anderson, Nate Wallace and Garrett Maddy.  Hunter Faul and Tabian Waddle had fumble recoveries.



Mt. Pleasant Middle School 8th grade football team blanked Fairfield on Evans Field yesterday in the “A” game 38-0.  Brady Sartorius rushed for 52 yards and 2 scores, Jordon Magnani rushed for 48 yards and had 1 TD.  Sartorius was 7-16 passing for 147 yards and 1 scoring pass that was caught by Magani.  Maison Ashton had 2 catches for 73 yards.  2 point conversions were scored by Isaac Kuster, Colin Mulford and Kieran Kohorst.  Payton Kelly had 6 tackles, Colby Potts, Tanner Ruby and Kohorst had 5 each.  Isaac Kuster took and interception all the way pack for a score and Caleb Potts had a pick.

In the “B” game M.P. won 34-0, Keegan Rich had a rushing touchdown and Chad West 2.  Rich threw a TD pass to Joseph Coberly, Cole Burns returned a punt for a score.  Ryan Walljasper and Keegan Rich led the defense with 5 tackles.  James Lobdell and Britton Ensminger had 4 each.  Ensminger had an interception and William Bauks an interception.


Iowa High School Football rankings this weeks has West Des Moines Dowling heading up the class 4A poll, Class 3A is topped by Sioux City Heelan, Williamsburg from Mt. Pleasant’s district is ranked 9th.  Class 2A Carroll Kuemper is #1, the Mediapolis Bulldogs are 7th.  Class 1A has defending state champ Iowa City Regina at #1, Class “A” is led by Inwood West Lyon.  Don Bosco is #1 in the 8 man field.


Coach Mark Hankins and the Iowa Hawkeye Golf Team finished 6th in the Golf Week Conference Challenge Tournament they hosted at Spirit Hollow in Burlington.  Oklahoma won the event with an 857 total, Iowa in 6th shot 875.  Medalist for the tourney was Stewart Jolly of LSU who shot a 3 round total of 210.  Ryan Marks was low for Iowa shooting a 216.
