Mt. Pleasant High School got a great start to their homecoming football game against Centerville Friday night, Clayle Franklin returned the opening kickoff to put the Panthers up 6-0 16 seconds into the game. Centerville then answered with the next 20 points in the first quarter and spoiled the Panther party with a 37-16 win. M.P. added 10 more points in the 2nd period on a Carson Remick 1 yard run and Zoom Gwamna 32 yard field goal to trail 20-16 at halftime, but couldn’t muster anymore points in the 2nd half and now have a 0-5 record overall and 0-2 in the district. Mt. Pleasant’s rushing game ran for 120 yards on the night with led by Spencer White with 80 yards. The passing game still is lacking as only 2 passes of 15 were caught for a total of 21 yards. Carson Remick, Keegan Pullis, Justin Dilks and Dustin Amos led the defense.
Mt. Pleasant won the freshman game 44-6, Dshondric Foster rushed for 2 touchdowns and 287 yards. He also caught a TD pass from Brock Wilson. Zach Ebling scored and also was a leader on defense with Ryan Moutrie, Julian Schwartz and John Anderson.
Mt. Pleasant travels to Fairfield 1-4 (0-3) Friday for more district action.

Iowa Wesleyan College travels to McMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill. For football action this afternoon. Both teams are winless so far this season.
The Iowa Hawkeyes play at Minnesota and KILJ-FM 105.5 will carry the game live at 12:30 p.m. Northern Iowa plays McNeese State and KILJ-AM 1130 will carry the action beginning at 3 p.m.
The MPHS volleyball team plays in the Burlington Tournament today.
The Southeast Iowa Super Conference holds the finals of their volleyball tournament today at Southeastern Community College. The consolation bracket plays at 11 a.m. this morning and the championship bracket begins at 5 p.m. tonight.
Tonight’s action wraps up the 2013 season at 34 Raceway with the Quads, Bikes and Side X Sides. With just $5 grandstand admission, fans will see plenty of turns, jumps and side by side action.
