A Sunday afternoon accident remains under investigation by the Henry County Sheriff’s office. At about 2 pm that day Benjamin Cleveland of Pleasant Hill was driving west on Hwy 34 near the Benton Avenue intersection. A truck pulled into the path of the Cleveland vehicle from the median crossover. Cleveland swerved to avoid a collision causing his car to hit a raised center island and a stop sign on Benton Avenue before going into a ditch. The driver of the truck stopped long enough to check on Cleveland and his three passengers and then left the scene before law enforcement officers arrived. The truck was located and the driver identified by witnesses. The Cleveland vehicle was totaled but Cleveland and his passengers were uninjured. All four were wearing seatbelts. The driver was not identified but charges are expected to be filed at a later date.
