Helen M. Sperfslage, 94, of Burlington, died at 6:20 AM Thursday, October 24, 2013, at the Rose Bush Gardens in Burlington.
Born May 21, 1919, in West Burlington, she was the daughter of Frederick William and Minnie Schmidt Heuer. On February 25, 1938, she married Alvin Sperfslage in Cedar Rapids. He died October 18, 1979.
Helen had worked at Schramm & Schmeig and farmed with her husband.
She attended Harmony Bible Church and was a member of Women of the Moose. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, dancing, remodeling, traveling, and was a talented seamstress.
Survivors include two sons, Arnold (Lois) Sperfslage of Burlington, and Kermit (Cindy) Sperfslage of Mount Pleasant, IA; five grandchildren, Angie (Phil) Macomber, Krista (Tony) McKenzie, Jason Sperfslage, Trevor (Michelle) Sperfslage, and Megan (Tim) Kelly; nine great grandchildren, Jordan, Anna, and Justus McKenzie, R.J., and Charlie Macomber, Audrey, and James Sperfslage, and Zeke and Naomi Kelly; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM Sunday, October 27, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Sperfslage will be 2:00 PM Sunday, October 27, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Tony McKenzie officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Harmony Bible Church Clean Water Ministry and Rosebush Gardens.
