The Mt. Pleasant Panther volleyball team hosted a tournament Saturday and won the title in impressive fashion by beating the #3 ranked class 1A New London Tigers in the championship match.  Besides winning over the Tigers M.P. beat Central Lee, Burlington Notre Dame, and Keokuk.  Brianne Holtkamp led the Panthers with 25 kills, Brianne Potts had 58 digs, Ashley Loving 50 assists and 6 ace serves, Kelsi Phipps and Taryne Shull each had 6 blocks.  Ft. Madison comes to Panther Gym Thursday for Southeast Conference action.

Class 1A #1 ranked Holy Trinity Catholic finished 2nd to 5th ranked Class 5A Johnston in the Cedar Rapids Prairie round robin tournament.

Waco finished 2nd in the Davis county Tournament, losing to the host school in the championship.


Mt. Pleasant High School girl’s cross country team continues to run well as they won the North Linn Invitational Saturday with a 101 point total, Cascade was 2nd at 104 in the 18 team field.  Ellie Conrad was 10th, Emma Ludwig 16th, Beth Wells 20th, Hannah Weber 23rd and Chloe Haffarnan was 32nd.

Mt. Pleasant was 9th in the boy’s race with a 236 total, Monticello won the 18 team field with a 36 score.  Individually for the Panthers-Logan Murray was 7th, Jack Pieper 38th, Ryan Hutchison 59th, Adam Bodenham 63rd and Josh Beelman 69th.


Iowa Wesleyan fell in their homecoming game Saturday to Crown College 34-31 in overtime.  IWC is 1-4 in the UMAC and 1-5 overall, they travel to Westminister College in St. Louis Saturday.


Men’s Soccer – Greenville College defeated Iowa Wesleyan College 4-1 in Mt. Pleasant, IA.

Women’s Soccer – Greenville College defeated Iowa Wesleyan College 6-0 in Mt. Pleasant, IA.


Washington definetly looked like the 8th ranked team in class 3A football Friday night as they rolled over the Mt. Pleasant Panthers 51-7 on Evans Field.  The Demons scored the first 8 times they touched the football led by their ground game that rushed for 323 yards on the night.  Mt. Pleasant answered with 88 yards on the ground and 1 yard through the air on one completion.  Dustin Amos scored on a 14 yard run in the fourth quarter for Mt. Pleasant’s touchdown.  MPHS is 0-7 on the season overall and 0-4 in the district, next week they travel to Keokuk who fell to Williamsburg 48-0 Friday night.

Mt. Pleasant won the freshman game 21-8, Patrick Canby kicked a 30 yard field goal and ran for two scores.  Dshondric Foster caught a 68 yard scoring pass from Brock Wilson for the other score.  Ryan Moutrie, Trey Cosgrove, Canby and Foster led the defense.

The M.P. JV go to Washington Monday night to play.

In Major League Baseball, NLCS action resumes tonight with St. Louis playing the Dodgers in L.A.  First pitch is at 7:07 p.m.  Redbirds are up 2 games to none in the series.

ALCS is tied 1 win apiece for Boston and Detroit, game 3 in Detroit 3:07 p.m. Tuesday.





Iowa Wesleyan College is going to be hosting a boy’s basketball youth skills camp this fall in Ruble Arena.  It’s for boys in grades 3rd thru 8th, and will be held November 8th beginning at 8:30 a.m.  Camp will go until 11:30.  Cost of the camp is $25 and that includes a t-shirt, please sign up by November 1st. 

On November 9th a boy’s basketball skills tune up camp will be held in Ruble arena for boys in grades 7 thru 12.  Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. and camp will run from 2-5.  Cost is $25 which includes a t-shirt.
