The MPHS volleyball team beat Washington last night in 3 games 25-17, 25-15, 25-16. Brianne Holtkamp had 14 kills and Taryne Shull 13 and 3 blocks. Brianne Potts had 5 ace serves and 18 digs. Ashley Loving had 27 assists.
OTHER AREA VOLLEYBALL SCORES: Clinton swept Burlington 3-0, Mediapolis downed Pekin 3-0, Wapello won in 3 over Lone Tree, Waco was a 3-1 winner over Columbus Community, Van Buren downed Danville 3-2, WMU beat Highland 3 games to 1, Ft. Madison was a 3-0 winner over Fairfield.
The Mt. Pleasant High School Cross Country teams finished 3rd in their classes at the Williamsburg Invitational. In the girls race Solon won with 39 points, Williamsburg 2nd 41 and the Panthers had 51 to place 3rd in the 6 team field. Ellie Conrad was 2nd individually, 7th Beth Wells, Natalie ita was 13th and Chloe Haffarnan was 14th, Hannah Weber was 15th, Emma Ludwig was 17th, Lindsey Moeller finished 27th.
Williamsburg won the boys class with 46 points, Solon was 2nd with 55, MPHS 3rd 69, in the 6 team field.
Logan Murray was 2nd individually, Adam Bodenham 10th, Josh Beelman 12th, Jack Pieper 20th, Dalton Krum was 25th, Henry Pham 26th and Blake Wickham 27th.
Mt. Pleasant Middle School 7th grade football team played at Washington. The “A” team won 16-0, Tucker Johnson and Rhett Zeglin scored touchdowns. Johnson led the rushing with 8 carries for 45 yards. Zach Beason completed 7 of 10 passes for 61 yards. Zeglin and Levi Puig each caught 3 passes. Puig, Parker Baugh and Tristan Scovel led the defense.
In the “B” game M>P> won 12-6, Jeremiah Miles scored both touchdowns and rushed for 66 yards in the game. Kalib Wilson caught 1 pass. Reece Gardner, Trent Bagwell and Kyle Wilson led the defense.
Washington defeated the MP Middle School 8th grade football “A” team 39-0, Brady Sartorius rushed for 54 yards and threw for 75, Colin Mulford caught 6 passes, Maison Ashton, Payton Kelly, Colby Potts and Tanner Ruby led the defense.
In the “B” game Washington won 14-12, Keegan Rich rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown, Joseph Coberly caught a touchdown pass. Coberly led the defense with 5 tackles, Mason Pounsavau grabbed an interception, Briton and Bergen Ensminger each recovered a fumble.
In Major League Baseball playoff action Pittsburgh beat Cincinnati 6-2 last night to win the wild card game, Pirates go to St. Louis tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
Tonight Tampa Bay plays at Cleveland in a wild card game.
Inclement weather for both race fans and racers forced the postponed of the Midwest Performance Quads, Bikes and Side By Side Challenge at 34 Raceway Saturday, September 28. The races have been rescheduled for this Saturday, Ocrober 5 with some time changes.
Pit gates will open at 1:00 p.m., grandstands at 2:00, practice 2:30 p.m. and racing begins at 4:00.
Grandstand admission is just $5.00 and kids 10 and under are admitted Free.
