Cross country state qualifying meets were held yesterday, Mt. Pleasant ran at Solon in 3A competition. The M.P. girls finished 5th in the team race with 112 points and did not qualify for the state meet as only the top 3 teams advance. Winning the event was Davenport Assumption 21 points, Mt. Vernon-Lisbon was 2nd with 66 points and Cedar Rapids Xavier was 3rd with 72. No individuals for the Panthers finished in the top ten so no one from M.P. will run at the State Meet in Ft. Dodge next Saturday. Beth Wells was 13th, Ellie Conrad was 22nd, Chloe Haffarnan was 24th, Emma Ludwig 26th, Natalie Ita 27th, Hanna Weber 33rd and Jena Ludwig 55th.
Mt. Pleasant boys finished 8th with 204, Clear Creek-Amana won the boy’s class with a 73 score, Center Point-Urbana 2nd with 74 , Mt. Vernon-Lisbon was 3rd with 90. Freshman Logan Murray qualified for the state meet by finishing 3rd individually, he will run in Ft. Dodge on Saturday November 2nd at the State Cross Country Meet. Other Panther results, Ryan Hutchison was 44th, Josh Beelman 46th, Adam Bodenham 50th, Ben Zihlman 61st, Henry Pham, Brad Martin was 70th.
The Wapello boys cross country team won the 1A State Cross Country qualifier held at Ottumwa with 57, Highland will go to state also as they were 2nd with 71.
The girl’s title was won by Pekin with 36 points, Allison Sporkman of Holy Trinity Catholic will run at state as she was 9th individually at Ottumwa.
Class 2A qualifiers are: GIRLS: Savannah Banwart and Haley Thie of Mediapolis.
BOYS: Dillon Timmerman of Mediapolis, Baron West and Jonathan Gavin of West Burlington-Notre Dame. Josh Keller of Columbus Community.
MPHS swept Keokuk in Southeast Conference volleyball action 25-18, 25-22, 25-7. Mary Wester had 8 kills, Kelsey Smith served 4 aces on 12 of 12 serving. Ashley loving added 16 assists, and Brianne Potts had 14 digs.
Mt. Pleasant has won 16 straight matches and opens tournament play at home Monday against Keokuk, you’ll hear that match live on KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com beginning at 7 p.m.
