The Mt. Pleasant JV football team scored a win at home last night 18-0 over Fairfield.

The latest rankings of high school football teams in Iowa has Mediapolis ranked #5 in class 2A, the top team is Carroll Kuemper.  Class 3A has Washington ranked 8th with S.C. Heelan ranked #1. 

West Des Moines Dowling Catholic is #1 in class 4A, Class 1A is topped by Iowa City Regina, Class “A” has West Lyon as the #1 ranked team Pekin is #8.  Elk Horn-Kimballton is ranked #1 in 8 man football.


The MPHS cross country teams travel to Centerville tonight to run in the Big Red Invitational, Keokuk and Ft. Madison also will be competing.


In varsity volleyball last night West Burlington swept Harmony 3-0 in Super Conference action.

Tonight Mt. Pleasant hosts conference foe Fairfield in Southeast Conference action, M.P. is 5-0 in the league and Fairfield is 2-2.  Other area games:  Ft. Madison at Keokuk, Burlington at Bettendorf, Cardinal at Notre Dame, West Burlington at Danville, Central Lee at Van Buren, Highland at Columbus Community, #1 ranked Holy Trinity Catholic at 4th ranked New London, IMS at Wapello, L&M at Pekin, Mediapolis at Waco and WMU at Lone Tree.

Major League Baseball playoffs….The Cardinals beat the Pirates yesterday in Pittsburgh 2-1 and  are tied at 2 wins each and the 5th and deciding game being played in St. Louis tomorrow at 4 p.m.  Los Angeles beat Atlanta 4-3 last night and will move onto face the winner of the Pirates-St. Louis matchup.

In the American League Boston is up 2 games to 1 on Tampa Bay after the Rays beat the Red sox 5-4 yesterday.  They play again tonight in Florida.  Oakland leads Detroit 2 to 1 in that playoff, the A’s beat the Tigers 6-3 yesterday and will play in Detroit again today at 4 p.m.


Iowa Wesleyan College has announced this year’s inductees to the IWC Athletic Hall of Fame.  The induction ceremony will be this Friday during a luncheon.  Gerald “Jerry” Lange class of 1948 who excelled in football, basketball and baseball will be honored.  Jerry passed away in 1998. His children will accept the award. Stacy Ticknor Boudreau from the class of 2001 also will be honored.  She was an outstanding volleyball and track and field athlete.  She is currently the women’s volleyball coach at Wisconsin Whitewater and has led them to a national championship and numerous conference titles since 2005.


Iowa Wesleyan College is going to be hosting a boy’s basketball youth skills camp this fall in Ruble Arena.  It’s for boys in grades 3rd thru 8th, and will be held November 8th beginning at 8:30 a.m.  Camp will go until 11:30.  Cost of the camp is $25 and that includes a t-shirt, please sign up by November 1st. 

On November 9th a boy’s basketball skills tune up camp will be held in Ruble arena for boys in grades 7 thru 12.  Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. and camp will run from 2-5.  Cost is $25 which includes a t-shirt.
