MOUNT PLEASANT—The Mount Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday named Pep Stop the third winner of the Mount Pleasant Community Pride Award for exceptional property maintenance.
Pep Stop owners Tony and Lynn Fedler accepted the award from Chamber President-elect Shelley Doak at the Chamber’s monthly Alive After Five networking event at Pizza Hut/WingStreet.
The Chamber board created the Community Pride Award to honor those businesses and organizations that maintain their properties with great care and to encourage other businesses to follow their lead. Winners are selected quarterly.
According to Tony Fedler, the Pep Stop recently engaged in renovations that created “a whole new convenience store and office.” Improvements included new walk-in coolers and a new freezer, new flooring and ceiling, new counters, islands and countertops, construction of handicap accessible bathrooms, and installation of LED lighting throughout.
The changes allowed Pep Stop to increase its kitchen offerings, with an island dedicated to sandwiches, cheeses, yogurts and other lunch items.
While the addition most notable to customers was probably Godfather’s Pizza, Tony Fedler emphasized the LED lighting. “That was a substantial upfront investment, but we really wanted to have an efficient, environmentally-friendly store,” he said.
The Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors selected the Pep Stop from several nominees for the Community Pride Award.
“The board members were struck by the transformative effect of these investments,” Doak said. “It really is like entering a brand new store.
Community Pride Award winners display a metal yard sign crafted by Mount Pleasant business Signs and Designs. Past winners receive a window sticker to acknowledge their achievement permanently.
Chamber members wishing to nominate a business for future Community Pride Awards may do so by completing a form available at the Chamber Alliance offices. The same form can also be used to announce renovations and other facility improvements. This information will be shared with Chamber members and the local media.
