¬In response to a need for peanut butter, cereal and tuna at the Fellowship Cup, a local Mount Pleasant food pantry, Iowa Wesleyan students have developed a creative way to help stock the shelves. Students invite the public to bring two of the above food items to use as the price of admission to the Main Street Cinemas’ movie premier, A Place at the Table. The film will be shown on Sunday, November 17 at 4:30 p.m.
A Place at the Table is a 2012 documentary film directed by Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush, with appearances by Jeff Bridges, Raj Patel and chef Tom Colicchio. The film, concerning hunger in the United States, was released theatrically in the United States on March 1, 2013. This documentary shares the stories of people from across the U.S. who do not have enough food or have difficulty obtaining food.
The Iowa Wesleyan students involved in this project are also enrolled in an expository writing course which involves interaction with the Fellowship Cup on a service project called Helping Hands Helping Hungry Neighbors. In addition to organizing the food donation drive, the students have interviewed Fellowship Cup volunteers and clients and crafted writings for the project.
The movie screening is co-sponsored by the Louis A. Haselmayer Endowment for the Arts.
