Dana Helen Blaskey, 96, of Lodi, CA formerly of Keosauqua and Des Moines died at 11:45 P.M. November 2, 2013 at Vienna Nursing and Rehab Center, Lodi.
She was born on January 12, 1917 in Morning Sun to Arthur “Bill” and Margaret Werts. She graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1933 and married Virgil (Speck) Blaskey on June 20, 1934. They resided in Keosauqua for many years, where Dana was involved in many organizations including Beer- Barker Unit, American Legion Auxiliary and Rainbow Girls. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the former Lynds Chapter of Eastern Star, Keosauqua and current 50 year member of Twin City Chapter #258, Douds. In 1960 they moved to Des Moines where Dana worked as a seed analyst for the state of Iowa from 1961 until she retired. She continued to live in Des Moines until failing health required that she move to Lodi, California in 2007 to live with her daughter. When her health deteriorated further, she moved into Vienna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lodi, where she spent her remaining years.
Dana was preceded in death by her husband in 1976 after 42 years of marriage. She is survived by a son, Larry (Bev) Blaskey of New Harmony, Utah, a daughter, Kris Caratenuto of Lodi, Ca, four grandchildren, Gunner Blaskey, Dirck Blaskey, Michael (Cynthia) Caratenuto and Dana Caratenuto. She also has two great grandchildren, who made her face light up every time she saw them – Owen and Emmaree Caratenuto. She has many surviving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 Saturday November, 9, 2013 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, Rev. Douglas Harding officiating. Visitation with family will be 9:30 to 10:30 Saturday prior to the service. Burial will be in Fellows Cemetery. Memorials to Fellows Cemetery or Keosauqua United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 2213 Aspen Grove Dr., Lodi, CA 95240
