Junior Derr, 85, of rural Farmington, Iowa passed away 3:33 a.m. Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, Iowa.
Born April 8, 1928 in Charleston, Iowa the son of Darius Lewis, Sr. and Ada (Cloud) Derr. On December 25, 1949 he married Elizabeth Biddenstadt in Donnellson, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife Elizabeth of rural Farmington, Iowa, one son Terry (Rhonda) Derr of Keokuk, Iowa, one daughter Rebecca (Charles) Smith of Farmington, Iowa, one step-daughter Mary (Ron) Mapes of Arizona, seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, eight great step-grandchildren, one sister Darlene Vantiger of Denmark, Iowa and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, one brother and one step-grandson Jeff.
Junior was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington, Iowa. He was a lifelong farmer. He participated in the Farmington Jamboree. He enjoyed square dance calling, gardening, selling his produce at Farmers Markets, hunting, playing euchre, watching goats in pasture and mushroom hunting. Junior was an avid Chicago Cub fan and he especially enjoyed telling stories, making people laugh and his dog Stewy.
Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Schmitz Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson with Father Dennis Hoffman officiating.
Burial will follow at the Charleston Cemetery in Charleston, Iowa.
A memorial has been established in his memory to the Donnellson or Farmington Ball Associations.
