Virginia Pauline Scotton

Virginia Pauline Scotton, 70, of Farmington, Iowa passed away 7:43 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

Born May 5, 1943 at Iuka, Illinois the daughter of Reuben “Smokey” and Martha (Moore) Hays. On November 26, 1968 she married Jerry Earl Scotton in Farmington, Iowa, he preceded her in death on March 14, 2012.

Survivors include her eight sisters Mary (Roger) Chappell of Dobson, North Carolina, Emma (Bill) Denly of Farmington, Iowa, Sandra (Sheldon) Bennett of Lomax, Illlinois, Shirley (George) Van Fleet of Plymouth, Illinois, Linda Underwood of Fort Madison, Iowa, Norma (Mike) Hornung of Wayland, Missouri, Roberta (Dale) Searcy of Mt. Sterling, Iowa and Rebecca (Paul) Crabtree of Keosauqua, Iowa, one brother Ron (Sandy) Tinkler of Jacksonville, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Jerry.

Virginia was a member of the Embury United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Croton Ladies Aide She was a 1962 graduate of Harmony High School. She worked at the Fairfield Glove Factory. She was also a member of the Farmington Arts Council, the Farmington Cemetery Association. Virginia worked weekly at the Farmington Food Pantry and helped with the Farmington senior citizen meals and with the annual Harmony Homecoming. She enjoyed playing Bingo, cards, playing jokes on people and was very involved in many community projects.

Friends may call from noon to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2013 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Farmington where the family will meet with friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. that afternoon.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2013 at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Farmington with Pastor Peggy Elllingson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Greenglade Cemetery in Farmington, Iowa.

A memorial has been established in her memory.
