The Holy Trinity Crusaders cruised in their first round State Volleyball match against Guthrie Center rolling to a 25-18, 25-21, 25-7 sweep, improving their record to 46-4 and setting up a semi final matchup tonight at 6 p.m. with #5 ranked LeMars Gehlen Catholic who won 3-1 over Stanton.  The other 1A first round winners were Janesville who swept Springville and Central Lyon who beat Tripoli 3 games to 1. Tripoli was going for their 6th straight state title.

Mikaela Foecke had 29 kills, 16 digs and 5 blocks,  Madelyn Orton had 9 blocks.  Maria Vonderhaar had 38 assists, Meggie Meyer had 11 digs.

KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry tonight’s match live at 6 p.m.

 

Mt. Pleasant senior basketball standout Taryne Shull signed a national letter of intent to attend St. Bonaventure University in St. Bonaventure, New York a school that is one of the smaller Division I programs in the country, but a team that two years ago made it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament ending the year 31-4.

Taryne older sister Taylor plays D-1 basketball at Bradley University in Peoria.

 

 

Washington will play Solon Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. in the UNI-Dome in Class 3A semi final play, Solon beat defending state champ Decorah 28-20 in the quarter finals.

 

The 2014 ninety-seventh annual Iowa State USBC Bowling Association Tournament is coming to Mt. Pleasant and Burlington February 1st thru May 25th. Mt. Pleasants Iris bowling Center will host the team event and the Burlington King Pins Bowling Center will host the singles and doubles bowling.

The 4th Annual Fort Madison Day at Carver Hawkeye Arena is set for Sunday, December 22, 2013.   Iowa takes on Arkansas – Pine Bluff.

The Fort Madison Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Club has worked with University of Iowa Athletics to secure premium seating for our group.  On Thursday, November 14th at 7:00 AM, tickets go on sale at the Partners offices located at 614 9th Street, Fort Madison.

The first 150 children’s tickets will be available for $5 each (ages 18 and under).  The first 150 adult tickets will be available for $10 each. 

 

 

Iowa Wesleyan College for the 7th year in a row will host the Iowa Wesleyan College High School girls basketball jamboree.  The event will be held in the IWC Gym on November 19th beginning at 6 p.m.
