It took a total team effort for Holy Trinity Catholic to reach the finals in the Class 1A  State Volleyball Tournament.  After Nicole Wilkens  suffered a late day foot injury, a last minute lineup adjustment had to be made and two new players to the rotation Kristen Tinguely and Cayla Pieper stepped up big. LeMars Gehlen Catholic who had beaten the Crusaders in two previous State Tournament meetings jumped out quickly and won the first game 26-24.  Then three minutes later the action started again with HTC never letting the Jays have the lead again rolling to 25-21, 25-14, 25-21 wins.  Mikaela Foecke had 35 kills to lead the offense, Madelyn Orton added 10.  Maria Vonderhaar had 43 assists and was 12 of 12 in serving.  Kristen Tinguely was 15 of 16 serving.  Kristin Brinck had 2 blocks, Lauren Pothitakis had 16 digs.  #1 ranked Holy Trinity is now 47-4 and tangles at 6 p.m. tonight with #2 ranked Janesville in the 1A championship match.  The Wildcats swept Central Lyon in 3 games in their semi final.  The Crusaders will find out later today if their top server and solid front row player Nicole Wilkens will be able to play, but if she can’t the rest of the team is ready to fill in and get the win.

Holy Trinity has never won the State Volleyball title they have been 2nd twice, in 2006 and 2007.  Janesville also has not captured a title, they were 2nd in 2010.
