In women’s college basketball last night at IWC’s Ruble Arena

Mt. Mercy defeated Iowa Wesleyan ……………68-58.  Karla Vietinghoff scored 18 points to lead the Lady Tigers and had 6 rebounds.  Mt. Mercy held a 29-26 lead at halftime.  Former Van Buren High School standout Makenzie Zeitler had 13 points to be one of their top scorers. IWC falls to 1-1, and plays at Simpson College on Tuesday.  Mt. Mercy moves to 5-2.

 

Jordon Ashton former Mt. Pleasant Panther basketball stand out, had a standout performance for Northwest Missouri University.  Jordon a redshirt freshman scored 18 points to be the leading scorer in a 96-50 victory over Baker University of Baldwin City, Kansas.

 

The All Iowa Collegiate Athletic Conference has named their all conference players for the 2013 football season.  Three KILJ listening area athletes were honored.  Former Central Lee standout Brad Vogel, a senior at Simpson College, was named 1st team all conference as a wide receiver and return specialist.

Former Wapello athlete Taylor Jacobsmeier, a senior at Wartburg received honorable mention honors at quarterback.

Former Burlington Grayhound Josh Osborne, a junior at Central College was first team running back.

 

Former Mt. Pleasant head football coach Bob Jensen will receive the Walt Fiegel Coaching with Character Award Presented at the halftime of the Class 4A football Championship game, Friday, November 22 by one of his former players Beau Hampton, of ACE Fundraising. 

This award was created in 2003 after the death of Sioux City East Coach Walt Fiegel who was also the Executive Director of the Iowa Football Coaches Association.  It honors an individual who embodies the high character, integrity, concern for kids, and service to the profession that were modeled by Coach Fiegel.

Coach Jensen ended a 24-year football career at Mount Pleasant. He retired with a record of 159-77. He gave 40 years to the profession, embodying the qualities of service to the kids, the school and community, and the coaching profession.

The 4th Annual Fort Madison Day at Carver Hawkeye Arena is set for Sunday, December 22, 2013.   Iowa takes on Arkansas – Pine Bluff.

The Fort Madison Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Club has worked with University of Iowa Athletics to secure premium seating for our group.  On Thursday, November 14th at 7:00 AM, tickets go on sale at the Partners offices located at 614 9th Street, Fort Madison.

The first 150 children’s tickets will be available for $5 each (ages 18 and under).  The first 150 adult tickets will be available for $10 each.
