The 9th ranked Mt. Pleasant Panther girl’s basketball team had to work overtime Saturday to beat a pesky Durant-Bennett team on the Wildcats home court. M.P. pulled out a 49-46 overtime win, at the end of regulation play the game was tied at 43. Taryne Shull scored 22 points to lead the scoring, Natalie Myers scored 7 points and Natalie Ita had 6 points.
Panthers play at home tomorrow night against Muscatine, they defeated Cedar Rapids Prairie Saturday 56-46.
The MPHS game with Cedar Rapids Prairie that was scheduled for Friday in Panther Gym has been rescheduled till January 11th at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

In the first rankings of girls basketball teams in the state by the IGHSAU. Class 5A is topped by Des Moines East, 4A has Harlan #1 and Mt. Pleasant is ranked 9th. Class 3A MOC-Floyd Valley #1 and Mediapolis is ranked 8th. Class 2A has Western Christian #1 and Class 1A has Newell-Fonda in the top spot and Burlington Notre Dame is ranked #2.
The MPHS boys basketball team will play a half of jamboree basketball at Mid Prairie tonight at 5:30 p.m. against Keota.
The State Champion Mt. Pleasant Competition Cheer Squad received word from the Iowa High School Athletic Association that they have been selected to perform at the 2014 boy’s state basketball tournament, the day and time will be announced later.
The Iowa Wesleyan College men’s basketball team went 1-1 this weekend in Ankeny, Iowa.
The Tigers lost to Manhattan Christian College 53-62 on Friday night. IWC then defeated Faith Baptist College 80-78 on Saturday on a tip in by Steven Archibald as time expired.
The Tigers are now 1-2 on the year. They return to action on Saturday, Nov. 30 when they hit the road to take on the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

High School football in the state of Iowa wrapped up Friday with state championships decided in 3 classes. Class 2A saw Carroll Kuemper kick a late game field goal to beat Waukon 31-28, Class 1A for the 4th year in a row was won by Iowa City Regina 35-0 over Ft. Dodge St. Edmond and in class 4A West Des Moines Dowling Catholic won 44-13 over Cedar Rapids Xavier.
Thursday Sioux City Heelan defeated the Washington Demons 47-14 in the Class 3A playoff football Championship game, Washington ends the year 12-2.
Other championships decided Thursday. Class “A” West Lyon 49 BGM 7, 8 man championship won by Don Bosco over Exira-Elkhorn-Kimbalton 18-14.
