Area girls basketball action last night:  #2 ranked class 1A Burlington Notre-Dame defeated 7th ranked class 4A Davenport Assumption 71-65, Lone Tree beat Danville 52-49, Davis County won over Holy Trinity Catholic 76-49.


The 9th ranked Mt. Pleasant Panthers play host to Muscatine tonight in nonconference basketball action in Panther Gym.  M.P. is coming off a 49-46 overtime win at Durant-Bennett  Saturday afternoon and Muscatine was a 56-46 winner at Cedar Rapids Prairie Saturday night.  Senior Taryne Shull led the Panthers to their win with 22 points, Emily Clemens led the Muskies with 17 points, Kaylie Miller added 15.

The JV teams of the two schools play at 6 p.m.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the varsity game live at 7:30 p.m.

Other area games: West Burlington at Notre Dame, Cardinal at Danville, IMS at Mediapolis, Harmony at New London, Keokuk at Linn-Mar, Pekin at Waco, Wapello at L&M, WMU at Columbus Community, Central Lee at holy Trinity Catholic (varsity only 7 p.m.).

The Iowa Wesleyan College Tiger women’s basketball team will travel to Simpson College tonight to take on the Storm.  Tip-off is set for 7:00pm in Indianola, Iowa.


The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 7th grade boy’s basketball teams hosted Washington last night.  The M.P. “A” team won 37-30 led by Rhett Zeglen with 15 points and Chase Lamm with 6.  “B” team won 38-6, Trace White had 9 points.  The “C” game was a 29-5 Panther win with Jadyn Vongsavath with 10.

The 7th grade boys play at Edward Stone Middle School in Burlington this afternoon.


The MPHS boys basketball team played in the Mid Prairie Jamboree last night, the Panthers played a half of basketball against Keota with the Eagles out scoring M.P. 25-19.  MPHS will open the regular season December 3rd hosting Cedar Rapids Xavier.


The Winfield Mt. Union JV and Varsity boys basketball teams are going to be doing a Hall of Pride scrimmage event Friday November 30th against West Burlington, after the WMU girl’s game with West Liberty, they are planning for a 6 p.m. start for the boy’s action.

Hall of Pride scrimmage games are allowed by the Iowa High School Athletic Association if it is tied in with a community service project and does not count on the team’s season record.

Regular admission will be charged for the girl’s game.  Admission to the scrimmage will be a free will donation or non perishable food item for the MOPS food pantry.  The free will donations will help cover a $250 donation that is required to be given to the Hall of Pride in Des Moines, any extra monetary donations will go to the food pantry.  The community service project tied to the event will be WMU High School instrumental and vocal music students along with the girls and boys basketball teams will go to Sunrise Terrace Care Center to entertain and interact with the residents with a meal and games.


The Iowa High School State Wrestling Championships have been a sold out event for over 20 years and is the only Iowa High School Athletic Association reserved ticket event. 

Ticket sales for the state meet to IHSAA member high schools who host wrestling programs will begin Monday, December 2, 2013 at 10:00am and close Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 11:59pm. 

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 10:00am.  The public will be able to purchase tickets at the Iowa Events Center ticket office, any Dahl’s store, online at . The order limit will be eight (8) tickets.

The ticket price is $8.00 per ticket, plus a convenience fee of $1.75 per ticket.  There will be a $4.00 handling fee per order.  A valid credit card will be needed to make an online purchase.  The Iowa Events Center seating chart will be available identifying class 1A, 2A, and 3A mats.      All seats will be assigned in the order the transactions are processed either at a ticketing location or online.
