Keokuk downed the Mt. Pleasant Panthers in Southeast Conference wrestling in Panther Gym by a 60-16 margin.  Winning matches for M.P.:  Colton Mertens by major decision, Tyler Lanphier by fall, Justin Dilks by fall.  Panthers wrestle in the Grinnell Tournament Saturday.

Ft. Madison defeated Holy Trinity Catholic in girls basketball 41-26.

The latest ranking of girls basketball teams by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has Mt. Pleasant ranked 11th in class 4A, Harlan is #1.  Burlington Notre Dame is #2 in class 1A behind Newell Fonda.  Western Christian is top ranked in class 2A, Class 3A has Mediapolis ranked 5th and M.O.C. Floyd Valley #1.  Class 5A is topped by West Des Moines Dowling.



The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 8th grade girls played at Fairfield Thursday night.

In 7th grade boys middle school basketball.  Fairfield beat Mt. Pleasant in the “A” game 60-32, Rhett Zeglen scored 13 points.  M.P. won the “B” game 35-9, Jacob Moutrie and Trace White each had 9 points.  “C” game was won by Mt. Pleasant 34-13, Willie Banks scored 9 for the Panthers.

Tonight the 11th ranked Mt. Pleasant Panther girls basketball team will travel to Keokuk to tangle with the Lady Chiefs who hold a 2-2 overall record and 1-0 in the conference.  Keokuk has beaten Burlington and Ft. Madison, loses are to Linn-Mar and Quincy Notre Dame.  Lakyn Boltz leads the scoring at 11.5 points per game, Kelsey Walters scores 9 points a game.

Mt. Pleasant is 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference.  Taryne Shull continues to lead the Panthers in scoring at 15 points a game and rebounding at 9 per game. Natalie Myers scores 7 points per contest.

KILJ-FM 105.5 and will broadcast the varsity game at 7:30 p.m.  There is a JV contest at 6:15 p.m.  Because of lack of numbers Keokuk does not field a freshman team.

The winless Mt. Pleasant Panther boys basketball team will host Keokuk Friday night, freshman play at 4:45, followed by JV and then varsity action.

Mt. Pleasant has a 0-1 conference mark as does Keokuk, the Chiefs are 1-2 overall.  We’ll keep you posted on the boys scores as we broadcast the girls matchup.

The Gatorade State Volleyball Players of the Year were recently named, Mikaela Foecke a Junior from Holy Trinity Catholic was selected for the state of Iowa. The winners were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2013 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.  Mikaela Foecke maintains a 3.97 GPA in the class room and serves as Vice president of her class.   She also is an officer in the local 4-H club, she has volunteered on behalf of food drives, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and city clean-up initiatives. On the court she recorded 760 kills, 275 digs, 145 blocks and 90 service aces this past season, leading the Crusaders (47-5) to the Class 1A state final. The Iowa Girls Coaches Association Player of the Year, Foecke was also captain of the Class 1A All-State Tournament Team and was selected for the IGCA All-State team. She also starred for the US Girls’ Youth National Team, which captured a silver medal at the World Championships in Thailand in August.


Iowa State women won the intrastate battle with Iowa last night in Ames 83-70, the mens team meet in Ames tonight tipoff is at 8:30 p.m.


The Iowa Hawkeye football team found out their bowl destination, the Hawks will play in the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida on New Year’s Day against LSU.  The game will kickoff at noon Iowa time, LSU is 9-3 and the Hawks 8-4.  KILJ-FM 105.5 will carry the game taking the air at 10 a.m.

The BCS National Championship game will be played at Pasadena, California January 6th with undefeated 13-0 Florida State playing once beaten 12-1 Auburn.


The 4th Annual Fort Madison Day at Carver Hawkeye Arena is set for Sunday, December 22, 2013.   Iowa takes on Arkansas – Pine Bluff.

The Fort Madison Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Club has worked with University of Iowa Athletics to secure premium seating for our group.  On Thursday, November 14th at 7:00 AM, tickets go on sale at the Partners offices located at 614 9th Street, Fort Madison.

The first 150 children’s tickets will be available for $5 each (ages 18 and under).  The first 150 adult tickets will be available for $10 each.
