For our sports report today….

As college and high school teams are on Winter Break it is fairly quiet for sports in the area.

It’s the Big Ten opener for the University of Iowa when they host Nebraska in Carver-Hawkeye Arena tonight in Iowa City to battle the Hawkeyes.  KILJ 105.5 FM will bring you game with the pre-game starting tonight at 5 pm.

Hawkeye action continues tomorrow with Iowa Hawkeye fans getting one more football game in for their season.  Tomorrow they play LSU in the Outback Bowl.  KILJ will provide the coverage starting at 10 am on 105.5 FM.

Mt. Pleasant Park and Rec has several programs with registration underway.  There’s a Panther Pom Pon Clinic for Kindergarten through 5th graders with three practices before a performance during a girls basketball game.  Registration runs through January 10th.  There is also a program for kids age 4 to 6 called intro to Team Sports.  Registration is running now through January 24th with children participating in drills and activities to learn about sports.  There is also 3rd and 4th grade youth basketball leagues about to start in January.  As of right now, there are not enough volunteer coaches.  It will be postponed unless they get more volunteers so the call is out for coaches.   If you would like to volunteer your services or if you’d like to get a kid registered for one of the programs, you can contact the Park and Rec Department at 385-1475.
