The Mt. Pleasant City Council met Wednesday night. As part of the annual business, the council voted to change the start time for meetings from 7 pm to 5:30 pm. The meeting nights will still be the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month.
Steve Engberg was appointed Mayor Pro Tem since he is now the longest serving member of the council.
The council received a letter from City Building and Zoning Administrator Barb Welander announcing her decision to retire after 27 years in the position. Her last day is January 24.
The council recognized another long term employee. Jim Schadt has been with the Public Works Department since 1971.
A public hearing was held during the meeting for the North Iris Street Reconstruction project. This is a complete reconstruction of the street from Washington to Winfield Avenue. It will include concrete street with curb, gutter and storm water improvements along with a rec trail on the west side from Washington to Mapleleaf. The plans and specs are with the IDOT in Ames. DOT will take bids January 22.
