Successful Blood Drive

The “Gift of Life” Blood Drive held in Mt. Pleasant Thursday was a big success. The blood center had a goal of 23 units of blood, they surpassed that goal and drew 29 units! Each unit can be divided into 3 blood products, so those 29 units of blood will help save up to 87 lives! They had a special giveaway drawing for a $25 Walmart gift card, and the lucky winner was Allan Miller of Mount Pleasant.
The “Gift of Life” blood drive is held each year to kick off each new year! A reminder to donors, who may have missed their regular blood donation during the busy holiday weeks, the blood center still needs them to donate! During the holidays donations drop by 20%, but the demand for blood stays about the same. Right after the holidays is a critical time to restock supplies, so the life-saving blood is ready when the doctor orders it. Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center provides 100% of the blood for patients at Henry County Health Center, Great River Health Systems, Washington County Hospitals and many other hospitals in eastern Iowa. The next local blood drive will be at the E3 Center on Friday, January 10, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and Tuesday, January 21 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m.
