Dorothy A. Huff, 99, formerly of the Harrisburg Community North of Bonaparte, died at 9:14 P.M. Monday January 6, 2014, at University Hospital, Iowa City.
She was born July 14, 1914 in rural Bonaparte to Samuel and Mary Swink Downs and married Benjamin Franklin Huff Dec. 22, 1934 at Carthage, IL. He died May 6, 1974.
The Huffs farmed in the Harrisburg community and Dorothy continued to live on the farm until entering Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua in 2010. She was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church which she served many years as clerk, had been a 4H leader and was active in the Republican Party. She had a life long love of music which she continued at the care center where she sang on occasion for the other residents.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Erickson (Kenny) of Story City, two sons, Roger Huff (Joan) of LeClaire and Stanley Huff (Marcia) of Vacaville, CA, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a sister, Jessie Borgman of Eldridge and a sister-in-law, Marianne Schrepfer of Keosauqua.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Delbert and Roger Downs.
Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Friday Jan. 10, 2014 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, Pastor Mark Caston officiating. Visitation with family present will be 12:30- 2 P.M. prior to the service. Burial will be in Vale Cemetery, north of Bonaparte. Gifts to a memorial to be designated later by the family may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 28002 230th St., LeClaire, IA 52753
