Irma Elizabeth Wendling

Irma Elizabeth Wendling, 100, of Donnellson, Iowa passed away 10:00 a.m. on
Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Donnellson Health Center in Donnellson.
Born February 26, 1913 in Franklin, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Wilhelm)
Steneker. On December 27, 1949 she married Ralph Wendling at St. Peter’s United
Church of Christ in Franklin, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 30, 1999.
Survivors include two daughters Janet (Nate) Parker of Oakland, California and Peg
(Dave) Wendling Gerdes of Fairfax, California, three grandchildren Courtney Parker
of Chicago, Illinois, Dash Gerdes of Oakland, California and Morgan Parker of
Chicago, Illinois and one great-grandson Samuel Oliver Gerdes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, one sister Elvira Bogert
and two nephews.
Irma was a life long member of the St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Franklin
where she was the organist and choir director for sixty four years. Center of Irma’s life
was her family, followed by her great love of music, especially classical and
especially piano. A gifted pianist herself, she encouraged musical participation and
enjoyment in all those around her. She also loved gardening (knockout yearly
peonies, veggies and roses), sewing, celebrations, and travel, a keen interest that
was deeply satisfied by numerous trips out west to see her beloved girls.
Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral
Home in Donnellson with the family meeting friends from 5:00 to 7 :00 p.m. that
evening.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at St. Peter’s
United Church of Christ in Franklin with Pastor Mike Bennett officiating. Burial will be in
the St. Peter’s Cemetery near Franklin.
