It’s back to work for the MPHS wrestling team tonight as they take to the road to wrestle at Mediapolis.  The Panthers over the holiday break concentrated on getting some wrestlers healed up from injuries and down to weight.  #2 ranked class 2A power Mediapolis wrestled last weekend in a major dual tournament in Rochester, Minnesota going up against some nationally ranked teams and wrestlers ranked nationally.  The Bulldogs won 2 duals and lost 4 during the Friday and Saturday competition.

OTHER AREA WRESTLING MEETS:  Burlington, Davenport West and Muscatine at Clinton.  West Burlington-Notre Dame-Danville at Highland.  Ft. Madison at Washington, Keokuk at Fairfield.  New London, Lone Tree, Waco and Columbus Community will wrestle in Winfield.


The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has released their latest girl’s basketball rankings.  The Mt. Pleasant Panther girl’s basketball team has moved up to #9 in the 4A poll from 11th in the last rankings, they have a record of 6-2 and will play at Washington tomorrow night who has an 8-2 record in a battle for 1st place in the Southeast Conference.  Harlan is #1 ranked in 4A.   Class 5A is topped by undefeated Iowa City High, Muscatine is 9th.  Class 3A has Mediapolis ranked 3rd moving up from the 5th spot, MOC-Floyd Valley is #1.  Western Christian is #1 ranked in class 2A.  Class 1A has 2 KILJ area teams ranked, Winfield Mt. Union is 11th and Burlington Notre Dame is 2nd.  Newell Fonda tops the 1A poll.


IWC will host Principia in women’s and men’s basketball action tonight, KILJ-FM 105.5 and will be broadcasting live.


The Iowa Wesleyan College Tigers had nine student-athletes named to the USCAA Academic All-American honors for the 2013 Fall semester.

Seven Iowa Wesleyan Tiger athletes were named to the USCAA National All-Academic Team while two more Tigers made the USCAA National All-Academic Honorable Mention Team.

In order to be eligible for the honors, student-athletes must be a sophomore or higher and hold a 3.5 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale

Steve Williamson has stepped into the role of Interim Director of Athletics at Iowa Wesleyan after former Director of Athletics, Mike Hampton took the position of Director of Athletic Development and Engagement-working with Devolvement and Alumni Offices at IWC.  Williamson has played an instrumental role in the Tigers’ transition to the NCAA DIII ranks over the past year and has served as NCAA Compliance officer prior to taking the new position.

 Williamson will also remain as IWC’s Head Women’s Basketball Coach, he is currently in his 10th year in that position.


The 11th ranked Iowa State women’s basketball team remains unbeaten after downing Texas Tech 74-48 last night.  In Big Ten play Iowa beat Minnesota 78-71.
