Foul trouble and free throws spelled doom for the Mt. pleasant Panther boys basketball team in their game at Centerville last night. The Big Red shot and made 20 more free throws than the Panthers and that was more than enough for Centerville to win the game 74-66. M.P. fell behind early and trailed 19-12 at the end of the 1st quarter but battled back and by halftime had the game tied at 34. In the second half the Panthers would lead by as many as 7 points, but to the credit of the Big Red they battled back and captured the win to improve their record to 4-4, MPHS is now 5-6 and will play host to conference foe Fairfield Friday night. Trey Magnani scored 30 points to lead Mt. Pleasant in scoring, Brandon Sanchez scored 14 and Zach Mulford added 11.
The MPHS JV boys lost to Centerville 50-48. The loss evens their record at 5-5. Ben Canby led the scoring with 13 followed by Kincaid Mitchell and Nathan McConnell with 9 and 7 respectively. The JV had lost to this team by about 30 points before Christmas.

The Mt. Pleasant High School wrestling team is finally getting their regulars back into the lineup and it showed last night with a home dual meet win over L&M 38-33. The Panthers host Washington tomorrow night for pack the gym night and senior night for the wrestling team.

The Iowa Wesleyan College women’s basketball team suffered their first conference loss of the season last night, the Tigers fell 65-60 after leading by 9 points at halftime at Eureka College, Karla Vietinghoff scored 20 points to lead the Tigers in scoring.
IWC is now 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the SLIAC.
The Iowa Wesleyan College men’s basketball team defeated Eureka College 69-62 on the road last night Will Stephenson led IWC in scoring with 15.
IWC is now 5-7 overall and 2-3 in the SLIAC.
College basketball last night saw Southern Illinois come from behind and beat the UNI Panthers 68-66, UNI is 9-8 overall and 3-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Indiana handed the Wisconsin Badgers their first basketball loss of the season 75-72 in the Big Ten last night.
