In dual meet wrestling on the road last night the Mt. Pleasant Panthers lost at Burlington 40-31.

Panther winners were: 120: Colton Mertens pinned Brody Johnson1:43. At 126: Conner Eads pinned Alfred Buford  2:00. 152: Josh Larson won by major decision over Spencer Sherwood13-3. 195: Kallin Crile pinned Jackson Villont 2:55. 220: Justin Dilks won by forfeit. . 285: Jackson Kelley decisioned Vincent Clark 4-2. At 106 lbs. there was a double forfeit. Mt. Pleasant wrestles in a tournament at Fairfield, JV team tonight and varsity tomorrow.

OTHER AREA WRESTLING:  Mediapolis 84 Pekin 0, Mediapolis 70 Lone Tree 0, Highland 42 West Burlington-Notre Dame-Danville 30, Columbus-Winfield 51 WB-ND-Dan 30, Columbus-Winfield 47 Highland 27.

GIRLS BASKETBALL:  New London 63 Holy Trinity Catholic 37, Burlington Notre Dame 73 Central Lee 51.

BOYS BASKETBALL:  Davenport Assumption 61 Burlington 33, Fairfield Maharishi 68 Harmony 43, Burlington Notre Dame 58 Central Lee 45.

 

The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 7th grade girls team played Washington Thursday.

Mt. Pleasant Middle School 8th grade boys beat Washington in the “A” game 55-44, Brady Sartorius 18 points, Kieren Kohurst and Colin Mulfiord 12 points.  “B” game ended in an 18-18 tie, Damien Sanchez scored 8 points.  “C” game Washington won 18-12, Keegan Rich scored 9 points.

 

 

The 10-5 and 4-2 Mt. Pleasant Panther girls basketball team travels to Ft. Madison tonight to play the Bloodhounds in Southeast Conference action.  F.M. is 7-7 overall and 0-4 in the league. In the first meeting between the two school MPHS won 61-22.  Ft. Madison is led in scoring by Caitlin Marshall and LaStella Slack each scoring 9 points a game.  The freshman team play at 4:45, JV and varsity action will follow.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the varsity game live beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The boy’s teams meet in Panther Gymnasium.  M.P. is 7-9 and 2-4, they lost to the Bloodhounds 51-38 in the 1st meeting of the teams.  Ft. Madison is ranked #10 in class 3A, they are 11-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference.  Miles Wentzien leads them in scoring at 20 points per game.

The Mt. Pleasant Youth League has 2 bowling sessions left in their season.  They are moving the start time up to 8:30 am for those 2 weeks, due to the Men’s state bowling tournament the Iris Bowling Center is hosting.  Make sure Youth League bowlers arrive early Feb. 1 & Feb. 8.

The MPHS girls basketball team dropped out of the top 15 rankings in class 4A in the latest Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union rankings, undefeated Harlan is still #1.  Burlington Notre Dame is still ranked #2 in class 1A just behind Newell-Fonda.  Mediapolis is #4 in class 3A, MOC Floyd Valley is #1.  Class 2A is topped by Western Christian and 5A by Iowa City High.
