Freda Pauline Hoaglin, 86, of rural Hillsboro died Monday, February 17, 2014 at Good Samaritan Center-Van Buren in Keosauqua where she had resided the past two years. Freda was born January 10, 1928, in Farmington to George and Lydia Schaad Neu and married F. Leslie Hoaglin in Farmington on March 3, 1957. He preceded her in death October 24, 1997.
Freda graduated as valedictorian in 1945 from Farmington High School and graduated Summa Cum Laude with an English degree in 1953 from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. Freda was a long time employee of the “Mount Pleasant News” before her marriage and then again for 20 years before retiring in 1997. She was a member of the Hillsboro Baptist Church, a 65 year member of P.E.O. Chapter AB, Bonaparte, Hillsboro Alpha Club, and Hillsboro Quilters.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Kathleen Schwartz (Paul) of West Des Moines, Donna Hoaglin of Mount Pleasant and Karen Hoaglin of Houston, Texas, a son, David Hoaglin (Tammy) of Hillsboro, three granddaughters, Crysta Hoaglin of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ashley Griffith (Ben) of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina and Jaclyn Hoaglin of Keosauqua and two sisters, Verna Henderson of Brookville, Pennsylvania and Mildred Jeffers of Farmington. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, two siblings in infancy, two brothers, Robert and Herbert Neu and a sister, Viola Proenneke.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday February 21, 2014 at Hillsboro Baptist Church, Larry Shipley officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery. Visitation will open at 2 pm Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with family present 5-7 P.M. Memorials to Hillsboro Baptist Church, Hillsboro Fire Department or Hillsboro Public Library may be left at the funeral home or church or mailed to the family at 308 West Monroe Apt 301, Mt. Pleasant, IA 52641.
