Larry J. Moeller, 71, of Salem, Iowa passed away at 12:02 p.m., Tuesday, February 25,
2014 at his home near Salem.
Born May 13, 1942 in Fort Madison, Iowa the son of Albert J. and Mary (Scharpman)
Moeller. On September 18, 1965 he married Mary Jean Kruse, they later divorced. He
then married Phyllis Clark, they later divorced.
Survivors include his five brothers Marvin (Glenda) Moeller of Houghton, Iowa, Darrell
(Joyce) Moeller of Salem, Iowa, Paul (Sharon Walden) Moeller of Salem, Iowa, Kevin
Moeller of St. Charles, Missouri, Greg (Lana) Moeller of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Three sisters
Marilyn (Roger) Boecker of Burlington, Iowa, Vera (Lonnie) Glasscock of Fort Madison,
Iowa, Eileen (Bob) Barnett of Salem, Iowa. Two step-children Dana (Beth) Clark of
Genoa, Illinois and Lisa (Jason) Yoast of Tacoma Washington. Larry is also survived by
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Larry was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton. He worked
various jobs around the Houghton area and he owned and operated Moeller Shepherds,
most recently he was employed by West Liberty Foods in Mt. Pleasant. Larry served in the
Iowa National Guard and was a member of the Houghton Knights of Columbus Council
#3905 where he was a past Grand Knight. Larry enjoyed sports, mushrooming and
picking wild raspberries. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan as well as an Iowa
Hawkeye Fan.
Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the St. John the Baptist
Catholic Church in Houghton where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 8:00
p.m. that evening. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. at the
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2014 at St. John
the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Bruce DeRammelaere as celebrant.
Burial will be at the St. John’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Houghton.
A memorial has been established in his memory for the St. John’s Cemetery Fund or
Great River Hospice.
