After a phenomenal regular season (22-3, 17-1), the Iowa Wesleyan College women’s basketball team has earned the #1 seed in the USCAA DI Women’s Basketball Tournament.  The Tigers will travel to Uniontown, Pa. to go after their first USCAA National Title.


The Tigers will face a formidable opponent in round one as they face #8 Concordia-Alabama, who won the 2012 USCAA National Championship.


The Tigers are led by Karla Vietinghoff, who is averaging 16.8 pts/game this season.  She is fourth in the USCAA DI in both points per game and field goal percentage (47.6%).

Vietinghoff and Whitney Godden are #1 and #2, respectively, in 3-pt. FG percentage.  Vietinghoff has hit 40.9% from beyond the arc this season, while Godden is close behind, connecting on 39.4% of her attempts from deep.


Lone Tree and Danville boys basketball teams meet tonight at Washington High School at 7 p.m. in the District Championship, KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the game live.

Easton Valley and Springville will meet tonight the other district final, that game winner and the Danville-Lone Tree winner will meet in the substate final at Iowa City West High School Saturday night, the winner goes to state.

Van Buren will play in a class 1A District final against Pekin at Davis County High School tonight.

In 2A substate championship basketball, Burlington Notre Dame and Albia will clash at Ottumwa Saturday night at 7 p.m. in a substate final that will send the winner onto state.


Iowa State played nearly the entire second half without the Big 12’s leading scorer and still rolled past a team that blew it out two weeks ago.
Georges Niang scored 24 points, DeAndre Kane had 17 and 11 rebounds and No. 15 Iowa State beat West Virginia 83-66 on Wednesday night for its seventh win in eight games.

Seth Tuttle scored 19 points with seven assists and seven rebounds as Northern Iowa crushed Southern Illinois 73-54 on Wednesday night.
