Mt. Pleasant school district residents, parents, staff and students packed the high school media center Monday night. It appeared most were there to hear the school board’s discussion of the district’s proposed strategic plan that has become controversial on many fronts. The school board passed the portion of the plan that involves what one person described as sweeping curriculum changes. Supt. Mike Wells estimates the changes will cost $300,000 to $350,000. Board member Regina Erickson said the district has the money but district resident Tim Batey cautioned against change simply for the sake of change. Several in attendance commented on the portion of the plan that deals with facilities and wanted to discuss further but the board wasn’t voting on approval for that piece and encouraged everyone to attend upcoming community meetings. The facility recommendations have a price tag of about $30 million.
